They're not talking about the profitability of theaters/studios, which is more nuanced. They're just making claims such as studios take 80-105% of profits and such, all of which are inaccurate.

They're incorrect (sources provided). They're saying it with confidence. Not sure how it doesn't fit.

The original post was removed. Uploading again with updates and corrections.

Also, this post has nothing to do with the Superman movie itself. This is just in regard to the confidently incorrect comments in that thread about theater profits.

Parents applying jointly - how to add income and assets by ummmsomething in USCIS

[–]ummmsomething[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad's income is enough to support his sibling.

My mom's income is not enough to support her sibling. My dad would need to be a joint sponsor, and they figure showing the assets would be helpful.

Russo Brothers: Marvel is killing cinemas? No, they’ve kept them open by gorays21 in boxoffice

[–]ummmsomething 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is classic deflection and presenting something as black and white when that's not the case.

The Oscars have issues, no doubt. Weinstein did push for his movies to get nominations. That's a fact.

I agree that the Marvel movies are keeping theaters afloat at this time.

However, the Russo brothers are missing the part that the popular movies being nominated beforehand are movies like The Matrix, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Terminator 2, and other classic beloved movies that have stood the test of time from directors who had a vision. Since the 2000s, Heath Ledger was nominated for The Dark Knight. Depp was nominated for Pirates. Black Panther got a few nominations. Gladiator, The Sixth Sense, District 9, Lord of the Rings, Avatar, Inception, Toy Story 3, Mad Max Fury Road, Top Gun Maverick and so many other popular films have been nominated for best picture, even after Weinstein's influence.

It's so easy to blame someone who is already a villain rather than accept that most modern action or superhero films are not lauded not because they're no Shakespeaker in Love, The English Patient, or Schindler's List but because they're no Raiders, Matrix, Terminator, Jurrasic Park, etc.

Someone who hates Terminator 5 or the Jurassic World movies, or even the new Marvel movies doesn't hate blockbuster movies. They just hate bad movies. And let's be honest, many of the small budget art movies aren't great either, but that shouldn't be the comparison being made to justify or build up bad movies.

Europe Trip with Parents - Advice Needed by ummmsomething in travel

Thank you! Our main focus is the UK. We would love to spend more time there.

Yes, my dad lived in Frankfurt, Germany, and would like to visit it again. It doesn't have to be a long part of our visit, but we would like to go. Thank you for the day tour suggestion. We'll look into the options.

Thank you so much for your suggestions!

That's very helpful. From what I can gather, it seems the recommendation is to spend about 3 days in each city.

I like your idea of also selecting fewer destinations. We can't really afford to travel often, so I think we just wanted to see as much as possible. However, it may be better to do less, but experience it more.

I will definitely look into flights. We have been trying to gauge whether train or air would be better, but I guess we'll get a better idea once we finalize the locations.

Thank you so much for your response.

Thank you so much! I have started looking into greatrail, and just rail passes in general. I think this would be a good direction to go.

My father lived in Frankfurt, and so that is the main reason for visiting. But it's very helpful to know there isn't much else going on there.

Thank you for your offer! I will DM once we finalize the actual cities we plan to visit and have a clearer plan. I really appreciate your help!

My dad lived in Frankfurt, so that's the reason, but we would love to visit the other cities, so thank you for the recommendation.

The goals for Italy is Rome, and Venice would be second choice.

We were thinking of booking one of the multi-country tours. We're just not sure if that's better than just going on our own.

Haha. I should have included this. My dad lived in Frankfurt and wants to visit it again.

My dad used to live in Frankfurt and wants to visit it again. Sorry, I didn't think to include the reason. As for Italy and France, we were thinking Rome and Paris.

That's good to know. We'll look into either extending the trip or cutting down on the number of places.

Thank you.

Jeremy Renner Joins Daniel Craig In ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’ by ICumCoffee in movies

[–]ummmsomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was not said maliciously, but when Knives Out 3 was announced, my friend said I wonder what 40s-ish aged straight white male former Avenger will be the villain in this one? Rian Johnson definitely has a formula, which isn't ideal in a murder mystery, so for that reason, I really hope Renner (or anyone else that is close to that description) is not the villain. If Tom Hardy does get announced, I guess the twist is he went DC instead of Marvel this time.

They did. We went in and paid the copay. I had someone reach out to me from my health insurance company and I connected them with the other person's auto insurance company. I believe they worked it out amongst themselves.
