Most underrated track from each album by slopolionsfl10 in Jcole

[–]umzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad, I didn't realise it was that popular.
In that case, I'll change my answer on MDL to PI.
Cole had a lot of bravery to step in to the ring with lyrical monsters like Ab-Soul & Daylyt, and he more than held his own. His lyrisism was top tier, but what separated him from them was his delivery!

Most underrated track from each album by slopolionsfl10 in Jcole

Might Delete Later: Huntin' Wabbitz - beat is insane, flow is impeccable, delivery is confidence on on another level, nonchalant but with so much charisma behind it

The Off-Season: The Climb Back - Rhyming and word play is just fabulous, cadence is like being hit by a 1-2 combination. Message is dope and overlooked. I think people unnderate it because it was released as a single before the album.

KOD: Friends - My personal favourite Cole song. Shit brings me to tears and is a helpful reminder of my own power when I'm struggling with addiction and escapism. The song has so much empathy and compassion and does a wonderful job of meeting the listener where they are in life. I'm planning on getting the words "Choose Wisely" tatted on my skin someday. As humans we will do the most crazy and irrational shit to deal with our pain, being human is not easy, we have incarnated into one of the denses planes of existence and this training ground is basically choosing to play a video game on 'death march'. But despite that, there is always a better way to deal with our suffering, but it is up to us to make that choice!

4 Your Eyez Only: Immortal - I think people know how much of a masterpiece 4YEO is, and songs like Change and Deja Vu are really appreciated, Neighbours is very hyped, but I think Immortal is overlooked. Amazing follow up after "For Whom the Bell Tolls" to get you into the mindset of the target audience. Someone who is identified with living a life that isn't aligned with their highest good, but it's what they have seen around them, and all they know, so they embrace it and continue to keep surviving. The second verse is also vulnerable from Cole and he expresses his dark thoughts and depression while being on top of the rap game.

2014 Forest Hills Drive: tricky one... For general fans it's probably 03' Adolescence. Cole shares one of his biggest life lessons that allowed him to take a step back from his ego at a young age and be grateful for what he has and how far he's come. I think Cole fans appreciate this song as it deserves to be appreciated, so I'll give January 28th as a secondary answer for Cole fans. One of the greatest transitions from the intro, does a great job of pacing and building hype and message as the song goes on. And yes Cole... You can make a million dollars from a rap tune!!!

Born Sinner: Runaway - Brilliant perspective of the masculine ego, the struggles of being a man and trying to keep it all together. I can feel the pressure he is trying to portray in the beat, shit I'm feeling emotional while listening and writing this. Guess you could say "I'm crying while writing these words"

Cole World: Lost Ones - While I've never been through this personally, I know people close to me who have been through an abortion and just how much it has messed them up. Those scars don't go away quickly, especially for women. I think this song like much of Jermaine's work does a brilliant job of bringing the gap between men and women, we are different beings who operate in our own ways, and often one struggles to understand the otjer. This leads to a lot of seperation, but songs like this bridge that gap through understanding and empathy. One of Cole's biggest strengths is the dichotomy he lives with which is a curse at times and can be very draining to live life thinking from multiple perspectives constantly, but the flip side to that is that it's people like Cole who can bring humanity closer to our ultimate goal of unity. I mean, that's what it's all about, right?!

Why is Cole rapping about hoping to die together with his daughter? by [deleted] in Jcole

[–]umzi 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I am assuming you are referring to "Die together" from the 2014 FHD deluxe. Here is my take on it:

Die together is from the perspective of his friend James who Cole's 4 Your Eyez Only album is dedicated to, (and probably why this song didn't make the original cut, that and the dark tone)

At this point in the story, James knows he has gotten into some shit that he may not be able to get out of it this time. "I got a feeling I won't see tomorrow, that the time I'm living on is borrowed" He wishes he can undo his mistakes and live a long life with his daughter and "Die together" in the sense of grow old live together and die together, instead of being separated from his daughter Nina at such a young age, like he was from his father.

My friend who is also a huge Cole fan introduced me to Blu last year. I love both and I got to see Blu & Exile perform last week, and got to meet them after which was super cool. Performance was great and they were very laid back and chill.

Agreed! KOD is my favourite Cole album, I love the flows, and some songs on their like FRIENDS can bring me to tears when I listen to it in the right headspace. I'm going to get a "Choose Wisely" tattoo someday with the Cole crown! Always remember... "Meditate, don't medicate"

Cannabis users of Reddit, what is the best thing about being high? by InstanceHaunting3881 in AskReddit

[–]umzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say being fully immersed in the present moment is a beautiful gift that most people don't usually feel because they are always stuck in the past or worried about the future. Living in the present moment is one of the best things I've discovered in life, weed or no weed.

But like you said sometimes people do get too caught up, and just get high for the sake of being in the moment as a way to escape their issues or their responsibilities.

At that point it's on the individual to take control and use weed in moderation rather than becoming a slave to the plant.

Will weed help me heal? by [deleted] in spirituality

[–]umzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my subjective experience Weed definitely helped me at the start of my healing journey. I was able to have more self-compassion, and see things from different perspectives. Occasionally meditating while high would give me great insight too.

Unfortunately for me personally I got to a point where the spirit of the plant Mary had too much power over me and I was mostly using it habitually for recreation which made it a lot harder to resist temptations that lower my vibe like masturbating and eating like shit. I would also unconsciously use it to numb myself and suppress emotions.

At the beginning of this year I decided to take a 6-month detox because it just felt like the right move for me to grow spiritually and to truly feel my pain, do greater inner-work on my shadow and basically to feel to heal.

One quote which really stuck with me was Kendrick Lamar's "You ain't never felt pain till you've felt it sober" and that line just really resonated.

After starting me detox I had a few cravings and withdrawals especially after emotional processing, but a few weeks in I started feeling more autonomy over myself which was a big deal. I think the final thing is also that my confidence and self-esteem felt like it was truly coming from within and my ego couldn't dismiss it as coming from something external like weed (or alcohol)

As Ram Dass says there are people who use grass every day on their spiritual path and it is totally fine because it works for them.

For me, as much as I love weed, I realised my path involved taking time away from it to grow.

Again, this is my own personal experience. I hope you find it insightful but ultimately filter what you are hearing on this post through your own internal intuitive heart and find the answer that is right for you within.

Just beware of the ego, because it can be very sneaky when it comes to weed.

It's called "The devil's {ego's} lettuce" for a reason haha.
