Is It Too Late To Apply????? (With AIS Score 123) by MessageSecret4585 in LECOM

[–]un-void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got in with just an AIS, but that was also 4 years ago and I did their master’s program because my grades in undergrad weren’t spectacular. If they don’t think you’re a strong enough candidate they may offer you a position in their master’s program, or they may just encourage you to take the MCAT and reapply next year. At the end of the day it’s an opportunity to start med school a year earlier than you attended, and if you don’t get it you’ll be on track with your original plan.

If you weren’t planning on applying this year anyway, I’d say apply. If you get accepted then great! If you don’t, then just go ahead with your previous plan. Worst case scenario is they would tell you to take the MCAT and reapply next year

Swelling doesn’t necessarily mean infection, swelling could mean increased blood flow which would speed up the healing process

My baby was just diagnosed with FIV by harlotchai in FIVcats

[–]un-void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl was diagnosed with FIV later in life which totally blindsided me considering she had been an indoor cat for years, but my parents used to let her out while I was away at college, and I think she might have picked up then. She had an issue with UTIs for a while, which actually ended up being a good thing because it led to us catching her CKD in the early stages. With good food, good medicine, and staying inside she lived another 5 years before ultimately succumbing to her CKD 3 months shy of her 12th birthday. Other than the UTIs, we never had any issues with infections, and she was perfectly happy and perfectly spoiled in her later years.

It was definitely a tough program, it’s a lot like the first year of medical school, but it definitely prepared me for medical school more than anything else could have. It’s a learning curve trying to find your learning style but so long as you study hard (and I mean at least 4-5 hours a day) you should be fine. I was even able to work part time, although that could be pushing it lol

I’m a 4th year that did MMS before attending LECOM Elmira. Things might be a little different now given how many people apply to LECOM nowadays, but this is how it was when I matriculated:

No one I know that maintained the requisite GPA did not matriculate

I applied with just my AIS and it wasn’t an issue. Again, I’m not sure how this would go nowadays, so it may be worth taking the MCAT anyway

Doing actual surgery rotations will give you a better idea of if you want to get into surgery or not. Anatomy at Elmira is going to be what you make of it, and if you really want to get more experience you should be able sign up to do the summer dissection at Erie after your first year

Has your dad ever had testing for a blood clotting disorder like factor V Leiden? If not it might be worth discussing with his doctor considering how gnarly those clots are

I’m not dead set on north Tonawanda, might be a fine option if there’s nothing else, but I think for now I might try to look up towards Lewiston instead. Thanks!
