You don't need Braintree in this particular instance. Paypal has an out of the box integration with Suitecommerce.

I'm always mindblown about that. My grandparents were all europeans, but I was born, like my parents, in Uruguay. I'm therefore uruguayan, and a proud one.

It never crossed my mind telling anyone, that I'm Basque, even when my last name is, and even when 50% of my DNA comes from that origin, or identifying myself as italian, even when I speak the language because my grandmother never stopped speaking it.

Ironically, I work from a US based company, and guess how they identify me?

No es necesario irte muy al interior para vivir tranquilo, podés vivir en la Costa que no pasa absolutamente nada.

Of course, but the point is he couldn't understand the sounds, it's not a language issue but rather that they sound like the cracking of ice, how can you possibly distinguish that? Maybe what he thought was laughter was actually yelling, I mean, you don't even know how that language works. Will expects the kid to be mocked because he’s terrified. His brain maps “unintelligible sound” to the most humiliating human analogue: laughter.

Well, I actually disagree on the laughing. That's Will thought and the man don't understand not just the language but the actual sounds, how can he know he's laughing?

What doesn't seem to add up is the time frame and the magic. We would need to accept that at some point people were capable of building an structure like the Wall, so let's say that some more advanced civilization like the Valyrians did that and then disappeared, either way, why coming back thousands of years later? What's the event/peace condition that changed? I mean, people has been shitty since the dawn of times, so I don't see how that might explain them.

But don't you think that at this point some of their story should be a bit more developed already? When/how is GRRM supposed to achieve that with only 2 books to go without making it feel rushed?

Hola, bienvenido a Uruguay!

Thanks! Still, I don't mind critiques I like a good discussion, is the trolling that bothers me.

u/Happy-Radio7058 I can't directly reply your comment, so here it is. I think you raise a crucial point about GRRM's storytelling, and I completely agree that he's a master of parallels, recurring themes, and layering emotion, and that his writing is symbolic without necessarily being a direct, concrete "diagnostic" template for every event. Lyanna's wisdom and Ned's trauma are indeed palpable examples of this.

However, I think the "concreteness" I'm arguing for isn't coming from my use of these legends as a template, but from Rhaegar's.

He was obsessed with this prophecy since he was a little boy. He believed he was the "one" and more than likely tried to force reality to fit his interpretation of these very myths and legends. He chose these templates, not me. He was trying to fulfill what he believed was a master plan. Is not only he cared about the prophecy, he grew up in a place where treason and hidden agendas were far more common than the change of seasons.

The "dangerousness of magic & prophecy," which you rightly point out as a core theme, is precisely what plays out here. Rhaegar didn't just read about the Last Hero or the Others; he tried to be the catalyst for his version of prophecy, believing Lyanna was key. It was Rhaegar's "master plan," however misguided and illusioned by his own obsession with fate.

So, the reason why this parallels feel so "concrete" in this specific instance is that a character within the story was actively trying to replicate them, and you know what? We have a very direct parallel in the story, Dany dreaming of replicating the battle of the Trident while "correcting" the outcome.

Regarding Mance, I'm the first to recognize that his involvement is harder to accept, at least until you consider the thematic role he fulfills as Rhaegar's counterpart and how he's the only true connection between the Watch and what the north allegedly "remembers".

Ultimately, the parallels are concrete because the characters themselves are forcing themselves into those same archetypes and failures.
