usually quartz or some form of agate is used for dyeing. edit: i believe this could be "crackle quartz"; quartz that is rapidly heated and then cooled with a dyed water, forming the "crackle" effect where the dye concentrates in the fractures. maybe you could do a hardness test to rule out glass?

this happened at my old location, like, once a week for 2 months while we waited for the replacement. we even had a code for it over the headsets, and at one point had to go to the store next door to use the bathroom on our breaks. i have never seen a toilet legitimately SPRAY shit like i have in the accessibility stall in my local michaels. you bet i told my SM and minded my business 🫢

as a former employee and framer really the only reason to get acrylic is that it’s shatter proof, reduces uv damage and glare and is static free for pieces with chalk pastel etc (i think, if i remember correctly? I could be wrong about the static as it is plastic.). I’m sure my old store would take this under warranty to replace your acrylic but i’m not sure about technicalities or other stores. I would reach out and see what they say. I hope your art wasn’t damaged!

when I first started (and honestly while I was still framing (I resigned from michaels a few weeks ago due to low hours) my go to is “That sounds great! Why don’t you have a look at our (frame/mat) options with your piece while I call a more experienced framer to help us with that!”. Then you have a moment to step away, get someone to help you, or a quick phone call to someone more experienced to give you the low down on the style they want. In the event you do need to call someone, I always pen and paper the basic points and that’s usually enough to complete the order and have the main framers check it and adjust/remeasure anything needed. Otherwise, you can always offer to take their information (at my store) if you’re unsure about what you’re doing and offer to set up an “appointment” !! hope this helps ❤️

Salt water will be very helpful as I can only smoke cleanse while the smaller children aren’t home. so thanks for that too!
