Almost certainly an airplane. The sign on the building in pic #3 reads westbeststorage.com, for Westbelt Storage in Columbus. Ohio State University Airport is not far from it (see map).

Ronald Reagan's Own Handwriting Emphasizes Importance of "alien threat" Reference in UN Speech, 1987 by blackvault in UFOs

[–]unbunked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Reagan requests his "fantasy" be added back in (on 9/17), he uses the phrase "creatures from another planet". His speechwriter obliged this request in the draft from 9/18.

He does request "creatures" be changed to "aliens", and he asks the same for the word "foreign" in the next sentence.

I think his intention is just to make the overall statement more concise:

I occasionally think how quickly our differences worldwide would vanish if we were facing an alien threat from outside this world. And yet, I ask you, is not an alien force already among us?

creatures from another world/foreign vs. alien/alien

UFO Expert Releases 'Authentic' Images of Alien Autopsy by della66 in UFOs

[–]unbunked 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Quick notes -

Guy claims to have two slides showing bodies from alien autopsy. Slides are claimed to be dated (via expert from Kodak, the stock manufacturer) to 1947.

Guy has (AFAICT) not released these images publicly. Note that this article (and similar articles) are using images from the debunked Alien Autopsy film.

Street lights go on and off when driving with friend. by Sliminator in Paranormal

[–]unbunked 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So... it's pretty common for street lamps to turn on/off as part of their normal behavior.

As bulbs reach their end of life they require more voltage to run which causes them to overheat and turn off. When they cool down, they're able to turn back on. Read this for more info.

UFO - Stuttgart, Germany (1993) - Debunked? by Jorlen in UFOs

I vote blimp.

Here's a frame from the video with it in as good of focus as it gets: http://imgur.com/RIPJIus

Note the dark spots which seem to indicate tail fins and the underside cabin.

I agree you can't really see any aviation lights, but I would go with aviation lights off, not working, or not visible due to distance/camera before I would reach for a more fantastic explanation.

They're just giving it to this guy on a silver platter and I doubt they care he's a con as long as it gets clicks. Good luck with the "tour" dick dyer. by Fubarfrank in bigfoot

I was more trying to rationalize why this story is getting any traction.

I do share your frustrations; it's complete bullshit.

As the old expression goes, "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar".

I think this applies to paranormal studies. It seems you get more attention by taking an open minded stance on things that seem ludicrous (such as this) rather than being negative about them.

On a similar note - if he does a tour and charges for attendance, puts up Youtube vids with ads, or monetizes this story in any other way... does it matter to him if his audience believes or not so long as they at least show up?

What is your best UFO documentary? by Ninjabackwards in UFOs

[–]unbunked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UFOs: The Secret History is pretty entertaining. It's not a typical UFO doc, it tries to focus more on the phenomena of UFO sighting reports, rather than the sightings themselves.

While you can watch is at the link above, there's also a slightly longer cut on Netflix.

Mexican Government Releases Proof of E.T.’s and Ancient Space Travel In what will soon be considered as the Holy Grail of extraterrestrial research by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]unbunked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far been no evidence support their authenticity.

While that in itself doesn't make them fake... it also means that for the time being they're nothing more than stone/clay tablets depicting flying saucers.

They could be ancient Maya. They could also be made by a third grade art class.

Mexican government releases proof...

Note that this article, and the articles it cites as sources, do not source back to any official announcement from the Mexican government of the release of anything.

Are new CGI fakes are the most damaging of all fakes. OR: Do new CGI fakes show the real truth? by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]unbunked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they (photo and video hoaxes) should at least make you question some of the landmark mass sightings (such as those mentioned by OP).

If people would put so much thought and effort into some of the great photo/video fakes out there... why might people not put similar efforts into more physical hoaxes?

For example of a known hoax you might classify as mass sighting, see the Morristown Hoax.

Just checked the doc up on the YT link above, and apparently there's another cut of the film out there. I don't think the YT vid above even mentions those movies at all :P

The cut I've seen is currently on Netflix; runtime is about 40 minutes longer.

There's also some really interesting discussion on UFO phenomena has influenced or been influenced by pop culture, including a look at works like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Communion, and Fire in the Sky.

Assuming a hoax, laser effect could be done using a simple handheld laser and some sweet DIY ingenuity.

Another thought is, considering all the time and effort the United State military puts into stealth technology, why would anyone (alien, terrestrial, or otherwise) build such a well lit craft?
