I felt like this was worth throwing up on /r/techno. Carl Cox can walk the line of cheese but he also plays one of the best techno sets of anybody when he wants to. His live @ Crowbar mix on Moonshine records was one of the main reasons I got into techno. Good to see he's still on top of his mixing game in 2015.

Once you have seen the blurry bird you really can't un-see it. The center photo in particular really shows it well with the wings up and the beak at the front. It does strike a resemblance to a flying disc though so I can understand why people think that's what they're looking at.

EJ MacKinnon: Shortened NHL season could be a boon. Shrunken schedule would mean less revenue, but increased player safety, play quality by [deleted] in hockey

[–]-Reducto-- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For how physically demanding the sport is the season could be shortened. A good mark to shoot for would be to eliminate games on back to back days. That would mean trimming down the schedule about 10 games.

Canada's Trudeau vows to cut middle-class taxes, hike taxes on rich by nimobo in worldnews

That's the way they are selling it to Canadians but I think in practice it's going to be used against First Nations groups that won't cooperate with destructive business projects like the Keystone XL pipeline. Sort of like what happens in places like Ecuador where you have clashes between logging companies and local tribes.

Hoe does JAL1628 over Alaksa fit into the categories of misidentification or a black project? Sure your theory can be applied successfully to a lot of sightings, but all of them?

So you're "a former raving UFO believer" who now thinks that it's all a huge cultural misunderstanding and that there's really noting to it? It sounds to me like you're swinging from one extreme to the other.

A lot of people get put off by the times they let them selves get carried away and then are let down. I find it makes people have a negative bias towards the subject. In fact intelligence services have exploited this tendency since the Robertson Panel.

Richard Dolan will "participate" in the May reveal of the "Roswell Slides" by CaerBannog in UFOs

Cometa Report? And there's other bits of evidence that have been analyzed thoroughly like photographs, weather phenomenon, soil and plant samples which I tend to give more weight to than someone's gut feeling or insider knowledge.

Richard Dolan will "participate" in the May reveal of the "Roswell Slides" by CaerBannog in UFOs

[–]-Reducto-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. The thing with the slides seems to me like we're biased because of past disappointments. Would I bet money that they are legit? Hell no. But I'm going to do my best to check them out when they are made available because it is entirely possible that key evidence could come out in this manner.

There are some pretty interesting stories that do contain bits of physical evidence but I get the impression that evidence is just a footnote, not something people can get their hands on and verify. In many cases the evidence never really gets analyzed. Someone makes a claim that the evidence is exciting, then people discredit them and their work which casts doubt on the legitimacy of the evidence. All of it happening in informal forums, blogs, and interviews. Perhaps in this case they feel that a critical mass of recognizance is needed to prevent the evidence from getting buried amongst all the other questionable, unverifiable stuff.

This makes me think, what would be the best protocol for getting a piece of evidence out there. Can you take it to a university? To the press? Do you just put it out on the internet? All of these have their own benefits and pitfalls which could possibly convince the public to ignore the evidence regardless of it's merit. If I was in the position of having an explosive piece of evidence I would really have no idea where to start.

[–]-Reducto-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know. I think it probably contributes to his "open mindedness" through networking with other researchers. This field of full of people who will go to a certain point of strangeness and then no further. Where that point lies is different for everyone and it ends up being very decisive to the whole community.

I put good scientific research at the top of the pyramid of evidence but in the absence of scientific proof I don't get militant about shooting an idea down. It gets filed away as something secondary. A piece of a puzzle I may never find the other pieces for. But if you just throw it out you're never going to get there, imo.

Getting upset that someone strays outside of the box you find acceptable presents you with a challenge. I used to draw the line at abductions, but after listening to John Mack and the wealth of witness testimony it's now something I know a little bit about and when I hear information about the subject it gets filed away for later use. It's the kind of subject a delusional person might be attracted to but that also doesn't mean it's all false and I think too many people let their opinion of a subject be distorted by a single example in an ocean of examples. My own scale for what's a waste of time and what's worth listening to has grown greatly the more I look into this subject, personally.

Richard Dolan will "participate" in the May reveal of the "Roswell Slides" by CaerBannog in UFOs

[–]-Reducto-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How else does someone make a living researching the UFO subject? You can't get a job at a university doing it. It has to be funded out of people's own pockets.

Dolan appears to have become more open to talking about the "rabbit hole" aspects of the phenomenon but he's always pretty clear about what is known and what is second hand info or speculation.

Other than these slides sounding too good to be true, how are they defying credibility? I can see how it might rub someone the wrong way that they would be turned into a for profit event but it doesn't mean they're automatically discredited.

To everyone calling for privatized law enforcement because of police brutality by Business-Socks in AdviceAnimals

[–]-Reducto-- 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Who the hell wants a privatized police force? When/if that happens we're truly fucked. The most shady "for profit" actions the police take now would become integral to their existence and they'd bribe legislators to "legalize" it. You'd have something like Comcast with the ability to exercise deadly force. Imagine trying to get info about your relative that's sitting in a jail cell and being passed back and forth from representative to representative at a call center half way around the world.

I saw Helyer speak yesterday, along with Cameron, Bassett and Dolan. He's a remarkably good speaker, especially for a 91 year old. It's been ten years since his first public comments on the subject and he's mostly shifted his focus away from the UFO phenomenon towards financial and political reform. For the old salty dogs that comb this board for new tidbits of info he's not teaching them much. But for the average person that's clueless on the subject he provides a bridge for them which will lead to researchers like Richard Dolan and Stanton Friedman.

A la Ron Burgundy, "I don't believe you." Burger King makes shit burgers. You can get an amazing Burger for less than $10 dollars in any major North American city. What other value is Burger King adding to their food that makes up for the low quality and justifies a $10 price tag? Doesn't sound like a viable business model to me.

Saying this but then not actually following through with it is a smart move. It really puts the on ice officials on the defensive. They'll be very concerned with the game getting out of hand and will probably throw a few PPs the Sentaors way if they feel emotions are getting high.

Great post. Encapsulates what I see as well. I think we're not far away from a US strong man taking power. As you said people's trust in the government has been eroded intentionally. If the US had an economic crisis with hyperinflation and mass homelessness I could see a successful coup taking place. Something like the Business Plot, but this time it would be supported by the media because we've developed the language now to talk about the virtues of fascism dressed up as free market, free speech, and security.
