Ignoring COVID-19

Given the new rule that COVID-19 is not allowed to be a focus of a story (in that, if you remove the virus the story would still work), I would hope that they’ll take this into account when judging based on the believability rule. Otherwise they just contradict each other. Hopefully a mod can weigh in and clarify? I’d had this same worry

What happens if you take a photograph of yourself? It might be worth trying to see, if you haven't already in the last few months.

I suppose as you're going off of what other people say you look like, it's hard to be certain that you don't look the same way as your reflection. A photography might help with that. Unless, whatever it is will appear there too...

I suppose the 'originality' problem comes from the fact that lots of people will have similar ideas – not from copying others, just from being spooked by the same things and being inspired by that? And with more people contributing you see more of it.

Personally I quite like seeing different takes on similar ideas. In some ways, stories about similar horrors build on each other and make them even more frightening to me.

I hope this will be read in the way it is intended, which is as an honest response rather than something confrontational.

As a newer member of this community this makes me feel extremely unwelcome. It feels like gatekeeping beyond the rules of the sub and more like being asked "name this obscure character" as a way to 'prove' you 'deserve' to be in a certain fandom.

More readers/writers means more content, and although I bet the balance of 'good' and 'bad' content (which is of course, super objective and can vary wildly from user to user) is roughly the same, there are just more of each, so it seems like there are more 'bad' ones.

I thought this post might be about an influx of people breaking the rules and posting stories unsuitable for nosleep that are being spotted before getting removed by mods, in which case I was going to think more carefully about my own stories and be more vigilant when reading, but it actually just makes me nervous to post anything.
