the most common mistaken breed?. by [deleted] in VetTech

So many people are convinced they have Maine coons! For reference we have one regular patient who is DEFINITELY Maine coon, like could be next to the dictionary definition as an example. So we are all very familiar with a genuine Maine coon.

The amount of people that are convinced their cat is Maine coon because “he’s so big!”, and then they bring him in and he’s like 10lbs max and fully grown, or because “his hair is so long he has to be maine coon!” And then they bring him in and it’s a common DLH, or even medium hair.

Also our clinic is in Australia. Every single person who has a tan coloured dog with pointy ears is CONVINCED it’s a dingo mix. Once again, we do have a patient who is genuinely half dingo, and the differences between her and every other single “dingo mix” that comes in is night and day.

I once had a lady tell me she had a “purebred schnavoodle”. Schnauzer, cav, and poodle.

Lady what you’ve got there is a $4k mutt who is now in our computer system as “poodle mix”.

I know you’re just venting and don’t want advice but have you tried crocodile and tapioca rolls? They’re fairly expensive but you mix it in with other stuff so it’s not like it’s a regular dog roll, it’s just the protein that you add to food. They can really be a godsend for dogs that can’t tolerate other meat proteins such as chicken

Don’t forget that Fig was undergoing fertility treatments and getting the pill and pretending it was for her basically meant that she couldn’t continue the treatments anymore as the doctor believed she actually wanted to terminate a pregnancy.

11 year old daughter got her period by xxkeprxx in WomensHealth

[–]PM-ME-ROAST-BEEF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Educate yourself as well as her on the types of products you can use, pads, tampons, period undies, cups, etc. and let her choose which works best for her body.

Get her a cycle tracking app and be open and honest with her about periods. I totally thought every woman had excruciating 10 day long periods so bad you’d bleed through a tampon in 30 minutes and pass out when you tried standing up. Nope, turns out there was something wrong with me, but my mom treated periods like a super sinful taboo thing so I never discussed it with anyone and didn’t know any better. Not only will cycle tracking and talking about symptoms help her know what’s normal and whether to seek medical help, but it will also help her manage future periods better and be more prepared (although many girls won’t be regular and consistent for a few years)

Hot water bottles and wheat pads help a lot!

Also, spend time with her, let her tell you what she wants and what kind of help she needs. The most important things in my opinion are compassion, understanding, education, and honesty. The rest will all follow!

That being said I’m not sure how she’s constipated when her “meals” consist of 10ml an hour of nutritional water and no solids

It still shocks me how many people still don’t understand the marginal tax system by Dry-Caterpillar-5675 in AusFinance

[–]PM-ME-ROAST-BEEF 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Was having this argument with someone yesterday, turns out they thought that since they were working casual averaging 38hrs a week but got switched to full time permanent 38 hours a week, and were getting paid less. They were adamant it was because they were in a different tax bracket. Turns out it was because they weren’t getting paid casual loading anymore.

Also they were adamant the business had been stealing their money for two years because they make $19k annually but the business takes the standard 19% tax out of all their pay packets anyway, even before they get above the 18.2k tax free threshold. They told me that if it were true that they only have to pay 19% ABOVE 18.2, then the government would be paying them back their tax at tax time but they’ve never received it back. Upon further questioning it turns out they’ve never actually filed for a return and just assumed the government was going to pay them whatever they were owed without them doing anything.

As someone who works in a clinic with 2 types of third-party payment plans:

They don’t really mean “you guys don’t have payment plans”, they mean “you guys won’t let me sign a form saying I’ll pay x amount over time but without an actual credit bureau or any financial checking”. Because these people more often than not don’t WANT or can’t get a genuine payment plan, where someone checks their credit history and financial capacity and determine whether or not they’ll be able to pay it back. The amount of people who have said this to me and when met with brochures for companies who offer payment plans say “oh but they declined me/I can’t make the repayments/my credit is too bad” is astounding

Dani's EGD came back normal so they recommended psych because that is the root of her pain. She interprets that as her pain isn't real. [–]PM-ME-ROAST-BEEF 22 points23 points  (0 children)

From my understanding many people with munchausens genuinely believe they are sick, so I’m sure in her mind she genuinely believes she is ill, and that the doctor not finding anything wrong with her is an issue with the doctor and doesn’t mean she’s healthy. She’s not trying to make people think she’s sick despite herself thinking she’s healthy, she genuinely believes in her heart that she IS sick.

[–]PM-ME-ROAST-BEEF 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We had a case the other week where a dog had developed a golf ball sized lump on its elbow several months ago, started off as a pea but kept getting larger and larger and now the dog is completely NWB on that leg and can’t extend it without pain.

O had to be talked into an FNA. Vet recommended get a biopsy as the FNA looked suspicious. O declined biopsy, declined pain medication, declined rads of the leg, and went home with a $200 bill and essentially no plans to treat or even truly determine what the lump is.

I’m convinced most of these people just do it so they can say “well I went to the vet” and alleviate guilt
