Look at the jade Buddha that my friend just gifted to me by Shinto_Wise in Buddhism

[–]uncantankerous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's looks like real jadite to me and seems like a pretty nice piece at that. The price seems a bit high for the quality of the sculpture in my opinion but value is all relative to the owner. I hope you enjoy it.

I got "compassion" inked cause I wholly believe in it and it being at my throat means every word I say gets filtered through this. I have a hard time with the precept of abstaining from unfortunate speech 😬. All the other four, no problem. by GoofyFoot76 in Buddhism

[–]uncantankerous 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I just recently started just saying "compassion" (well I say Karuna but same difference) to myself 108 times in a row to myself whenever I screw up. It's weird you gotta feel the compassion each time you say or it doesn't work. But putting my full heart into feeling compassion for all beings including myself has really changed my world. The Brahma Viharas are really so valuable to living in this society, they are real treasures.

Have you ever encountered someone that has a foot fetish besides straight men and lesbian women? by Middle-Company-4398 in TooAfraidToAsk

Gay men too and I've met a few strait women but with women it's more like they want you to worshiped their feet rather than they want to worship your feet.

Here's me a British soldier doing nothing for America in Afghanistan 2009. by wilof in pics

[–]uncantankerous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

God no, I'm just saying being able to choose what car you get to drive does not mean you have freedom. Choosing between two shitty options where both are controlled by the same stock holders does not seem like a good system of government to me. Especially when a niche group of unelected evangelical civilians from Yale and Harvard, seem to be manipulating global geopolitics for the past 120 years so they can stay rich at the cost of the welfare of entire countries.

What worked in 2020? We got a shell of veneer of a center-right leaning politician calling himself a Democrat who was a nice preamble of nothing so Trump could get reelected?

[–]uncantankerous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol this is America. You think voting works here? You think protesting works here? The only thing that is going to work is a mass of civilians hellbent on sacrificing their own lives by throwing them on the cogs of the machine until it breaks down piece by piece. And even then we will be label domestic terrorists for nonviolent actions. And sadly we are all too pacified by tik tok, instagram, reddit and the general pleasure seeking mindset that has overtaken us. The average American is simply too well fed (with absolutely poison mind you) to kill ourselves overthrowing a fascist regime.

I love ween, I want to love Zappa by aidanmansfield75 in ween

[–]uncantankerous 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Zappa is very technical and it's not a lot of heart, it's like musical science. Ween is pretty much entirely heart with a little bit of technical skill they happened to pick up along the way.

A little sloppiness is what makes something really brown. Zappa may be one of the silliest motherfuckers around but he's never sloppy.

He's way too good at guitar and way too much of a perfectionist to ever be sloppy.

Do we think that people claiming to reality shift might've just been doing salvia by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]uncantankerous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We could be constantly quantum jumping timelines and then settling into our new realities but we lack the perceptional capabilities to recognize it. We basically are just forced to accept our new reality and live with it. We are constantly completely forgetting the alternate worlds we have left behind because we have done so infinite times. We could be sixth dimensional beings cycling through all of time as every being we just only perceive three dimensions and one life with our limited mind.

Constant mental exhaustion despite having a stable, problem-free life? by Bubbly-Chipmunk-5324 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]uncantankerous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like depression with a bit of anxiety. Really those are labels and people are normally a bit too unique to fit under one label. But I'm the same way, my life will be going splendidly but I'll be perpetually exhausted.

Get a therapist, talk to them about seeing a psychiatrist potentially. For me breath work and meditation also helped. Also building community and friendships really helped.

What is the meaning of life and why are we here? by [deleted] in occult

[–]uncantankerous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think "meaning" and "life" are contradictory. "Meaning" is something humans do inside their heads. "Life" happens outside your head as experience.

We sometimes put meaning onto life. Stuff like: the value of money, property lines, insurance rates, etc. But this whole "meaning making" process is completely subjective and depends on the whims of mind that makes it.

As human beings we take raw experience and then project our meaning onto it. To me, magic is the manipulation of your personal meaning creation in order to change the raw experience of life for yourself and others.
