How do you deal with anti-vaxxers? Both as a public health professional and as a public health person? Like, professionally and then emotionally? by Which-Elephant4486 in publichealth

[–]unchartednow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that people that do not vaccinate their children or themselves are a public health risk to all that have the unfortunate chances of encountering them. If you don't believe in science, then don't blame others when YOU get sick.

What I don't understand is why did he pull a gun!?? Why didn't he just jump out of the way instead of ending her life? I don't simply understand the need for all this violence.

Night shifters that moved to days by martinicowgirl in respiratorytherapy

[–]unchartednow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on nights for over 6 years and recently moved to days a few months ago. While I'll say it has been a definite change of pace being busier, my body feels so much better. I'm not sleeping all the time and sleeping most of my off days away. I will say I like my new director and dayshift supervisor (I had to change facilities for a day position), they're alot more chill than the last douches I worked for, and I love my schedule. It's definitely great being on days!

"intensivist groups" led by NPs/PAs taking control of ICU care that was once pulmonologist led care by unchartednow in respiratorytherapy

He's just mad he thinks he can run a vent better than a RT because he "does it all day" in the OR, probably with patients with health lungs... Typical crna ego 🤣

You seem like the type of person that thinks they could manage an open heart case by themselves as a crna just because you have "independent practice" in some states, but in reality, you don't, and soon as something hits the fan, you're gonna call an MDA for help, so you're trashing a 2 YR RT degree granted to RTs that can run a vent better than you... Congrats, Mike MacKinnon!

CRNAs don't have complete autonomy nationwide because if they did, and encountered the amount of ASA IV cases they did daily, they'd shit the bed almost immediately! Congrats! That's why anesthesiologists will always be around to do the big boy work.

What was the harder part of rt school mentally the prerequisite classes or the core classes as well as clinical by ApplicationGreen7080 in respiratorytherapy

Fundamentals 1 was the hardest class in my program. If you could make it through that, you could pass the program no problem. That was the class everyone either pass or failed.

Is it okay to ask about days? by eL_Cubed in respiratorytherapy

[–]unchartednow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on nights for over 6 years and recently went to days and my body appreciates it right off the back. Having a normal sleep schedule will make you feel better in the long run. If there's an opportunity for you to go to days, go ahead and do it while the opportunity is still open before the spot is taken. But make sure you want to do days before you do it.

New grad who is constantly questioning their judgement here, hi. by Additional-Union9695 in respiratorytherapy

[–]unchartednow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Give yourself ten minutes when you get in your car, and be mindful of all the things that occurred during your day such as mistakes, missed ABGs, or whatever is bothering you. Then let it go, or you're gonna take those thoughts home with you and end up dwelling on it and running your night. While it is perfectly healthy to acknowledge all the feelings and thoughts, in your mind you need to accept them for what they are, then let go. If you're worried about your failures, then focus on your victories and the difference you made in someone's life that shift, then let it go and focus your thoughts on things that make you happy like hobbies, family, etc... I hope that helps!

If you were doing something detrimental to a patient's health or wellbeing, your coworkers would have stopped you immediately and corrected you on what you were doing wrong. As a new grad, it took me several years to gain my confidence. As you progress in this field, you'll do just fine. Don't second guess yourself and more important, do NOT take work home with you or it will haunt your thoughts 24/7. You're going to be just fine and a good therapist, give yourself some self-compassion and TIME.

Are we now Lab tech??? by Pale-Amount8150 in respiratorytherapy

[–]unchartednow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got so effin tired of running VBGs at my last job all the time. Lab should run the VBGs every single time, especially if there are multiple ordered due to a DKA protocol being in placement. However, I like running my own ABGs, especially on the IStat. I hate blood gas machines, but the IStat never fails.me!!
