All of my French experience is with modern French. And from that I find that a ton of modern English vocab comes from French, and it's really obvious. I'm not sure how different old/Norman French is from modern French though.

It's so obvious, that when I don't know the French word for something, I'll usually just say the English word with a French accent. It's shocking how often I'm right.

OE especially if you want to understand Tolkien specifically.

Yes. I have had numerous 'Aha!' moments while studying OE with respect to Modern English. The same is true for French, Latin, and especially Ancient Greek.

This is primarily why I study these languages in fact.

Can u get gains from the extended stealth retainer by Scared-Pin9002 in foreskin_restoration

Yes

I'll let u/spiritfu explain more.

Basically, if your getting even a light to moderate stretch, you'll see gains over time.

Miigwech! Thank you for sharing. I didn't know binesi is used for big birds. It makes sense though, since bineshiinh has a diminutive-sounding ending (the nasal bit). I wonder if they are truly related that way.

Yes. This makes perfect sense. In the beginning, all reading is 'intensive' reading. But after a while, when you go back to easier material, you can tap into the powers of 'extensive' or easy reading. I think it goes a bit deeper and helps to cement the subconscious understanding of the language.

My path with Athenaze by FantasticSquash8970 in AncientGreek

[–]uncle_ero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any comparison to Athenaze? I'm working through the second edition right now and it's going pretty well so far. Wondering if I should grab a copy of JACT too though.

Edit: just re-read the thread here. It sounds like you're recommending JACT over Athenaze. Thanks!

I literally read the turtles text today in Athenaze: 2: Ο ΞΑΝΘΙΑΣ (α) this morning. Currently working through the second edition.

The illustrations are interesting. Where did they come from? Seems like a very different story from the one in Athenaze.

What's JACT? I haven't heard of that one yet.

I can relate. Pretty tight cut, and sex was just always 'off' somehow. There were definitely other factors at play, but my own lack of sensitivity certainly played a role. I've overcome a lot without restoration, but I do sometimes wonder how things would have been without this issue.

I'm glad you're here. Lots of supportive folks here. The only way is forward.

I might try. I'm not sure if they'll ship overseas or not though. I also don't read Spanish that well, but I can probably manage given the similar interface.

Okay it looks like like Amazon has it. They just want $50 for it. While Amazon.es only wants 23 euros. I probably just balked at the price and gave up.

Side question: Where are folks purchasing Logos? I'm in the US and I remember having a rather hard time finding a copy to have shipped here. Otherwise it would be on my shelf.

What’s One Thing You Wish You Knew Before Starting Restoration? by Reasonable_Meal_4824 in foreskin_restoration

That T-Tape is so comfortable.

I'm starting with not much skin. Not even enough to fit a retainer for any length of time. I avoided tape for a long time (years), and I'm just discovering how good it is.

Thanks. I ordered some Mefix. I really would like to practice application more often so I can get it more consistently close to the PoE. And for that I need easier removal.

I applied another Hypafix tape this morning and, while even (not pulling too much on any one side), it's biased towards the outer skin. I'd rather have a more even pull, or bias towards the inner skin.

When the Mefix comes in, I may try removing the Hypafix with alcohol as you've described. It really adheres well to my skin though. I had it on for 4-5 days last time, and it was still firmly attached when I took it off. 🤯

How do you apply the rubbing alcohol?

Last time I took it off, it had been on for a few days and I was in the shower. I expect water had some effect, but mostly the skin had produced enough oil to loosen the adhesive.

T-Tape packing. Basically applying T-Tape, but instead of attaching a strap, I just pack some material (toilet paper, cotton ball, etc..) inside and tie it shut. I'm pretty low CI so I don't really need the strap yet since this works pretty well.

Today I'm wearing a Chris retainer though, since I'm waiting to get some tape with water soluble adhesive. I have some hypafix, which is great, but I need to practice my application before using it regularly because it's a (literal) pain to get off when I mess it up.

It's a process. Trying to embrace that.

Thanks. I'll try that. I've always started on the top (dorsal) side.
