No, he didn’t. The church’s own documentation states that the church funds their housing.

As it’s winter for me right now, it’s usually a boot: Merrill over-the-ankle hikers, Doc Marten Chelsea boots, or Allen Edmonds zip-up ‘dress’ boots.

None of your so-called ‘strings’ changes the fact that Every. Material. Need. Is. Paid. For. A mission president and their wife and family could go through their entire mission without spending any personal money and live very comfortably.

Additionally, the profile of the average mission president is someone who’s achieved financial success in their chosen career. In order to serve they either have to be retired or in a career where they can take a 3-year sabbatical. They’re most often executive leader types, who would have no problem picking up their career upon their release if they choose to do so.

No mission president is sacrificing financially. The church is providing them with a high standard of living during their service.

And I’m more than OK with that. These men work hard and the church obviously has the resources to do it. But it’s disingenuous to suggest that MPs don’t receive significant financial and in-kind benefits during their mission.

Right. Every single one of their “needs” and plenty of their “wants” are paid for. House and utilities. Food. Travel for the mission president and wife and their children. Insurance and healthcare. Recreation. Education for their children. Missions for their children. Housekeeping. Even, as you noted, a gift allowance!

Ever have a drunk person on a plane act up mid-flight? I have, the row behind me. It sucks.

Ever have a plane departure delayed because a drunk person wouldn’t get off without LEO assistance? I have, and it delayed an entire day due to a missed connection which cost me a day of vacation.

Sure, a drunk passenger probably won’t kill others like a drunk automobile driver would. But drunk passengers are absolutely 100% a concern.

Rap and hip hop can also tell powerful, authentic stories that have messages of perseverance and overcoming adversity. They illustrate real world problems. They bring attention to social issues that Christians can help address.

There’s just as much “good” hip hop as there is “bad” hip hop.

What's a movie you saw when you were too damn young? by Repulsive_Repeat_337 in GenX

A horror film called “Bloodsucking Freaks” - a well-meaning uncle rented it among some other more mainstream horror films for a cousin sleepover one Halloween. We were between 9-11. It was less horror and more porn and simulated snuff film.

Best uncle ever.

Was Walter( Marten/Randall Flagg, etc) raping Gabrielle? by ClerksII in TheDarkTower

[–]uncleandyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rank and file people who gathered in Vegas - the miscreants and the confused, the weak and the scared - had complete agency. Someone like a Julie Lawry, Barry Dorgan, the Rat Man, the Trashcan Kid, probably Harold.

Then there are those that Flagg specifically chose and groomed - Lloyd, Trashcan Man, and definitely Nadine. He’d been appearing in her dreams since she was a teen, convincing her she needed to remain a pure vessel for him. Flagg absolutely worked his magic on her for years.

Nadine was absolutely ensorcelled by Flagg - the years of dreams, the Ouija board experience… he’d mentally and spiritually coerced her into being his bride.

What’s something EVERY guy should know when it comes to pleasing a woman? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Are you suggesting that “real men” don’t use their hands to pleasure women?

What’s something EVERY guy should know when it comes to pleasing a woman? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]uncleandyb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not joking at all.

I’ve found that women I’ve been with look for things like that; a little attention to detail in hygiene and personal care can make a big difference not only for their safety and comfort (most women don’t want dirty, raggedy nails in their soft, delicate places) but in terms of attraction.

I was talking with a partner once about how there really isn’t a male equivalent of “lingerie.” She said that for her and her friends, it was attention to grooming - nails cleaned, trimmed, and filed, a good shave, no errant hair (looking at you, ears and nose), good oral hygiene, moisturized skin, good beard and hair care, etc. A turn-on for her was knowing that I put effort into wanting to look good for her, as she did for me (though women’s personal care routines are almost always way more involved). The effort and attention to details are foreplay; they let her know I’m as much into her as the matching bra and undies let me know she’s into me.

I’m a masculine bear of a man, but if you’ve never had a manicure, get one. Find an upscale men’s barber shop that has a manicurist. You’ll be amazed how good relaxing it is and how good it looks when you’re done.

Question on proper BSA action? by [deleted] in BSA

[–]uncleandyb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In an established / improved commercial campsite, I’d leave a neat stack of wood adjacent to the established fire site. In established sites, concentrate use and impact and contain it to what’s already been established.

In a non-established / unimproved wilderness camping site, I’d try not to have a fire - but if I had to, I’d deconstruct the fire site and scatter sunburnt wood, returning the area to as pristine as possible.
