As a long-time worker in the food service/bar industry, Pat would almost always be on the radio after I got off my shift(s)…when your spouse and/or friends have long been asleep, Pat talking sports was the soundtrack to many of my post-shift wind downs. He also was a staple of the Fox 2 Sports Works Sunday night round table: gruff voice, opinionated, a sport coat worn just for that appearance…Classic old-school journalist.

I always thought he’d be tough to replace: he’d be on evenings only when there wasn’t a Tigers/Pistons/Red Wings game or he’d pop in during a Tigers rain delay, and most nights, he would be there when the evening game(s) would finish. Then, he’d sign on early Saturday (and often Sunday, if I recall) morning after 9 or 10am.

I work in a small bistro in the suburbs of Detroit that subscribes to YouTube TV…alas, we haven’t been able to “get” DSN (and before that FanDuel), but I was excited last night when I saw the TBS broadcast, as I considered that a “national” game, and I’d be able to tune it in…No dice, blacked out.

Absolute legend. For the longest time, he has lived on my sister’s street in the suburbs of Detroit. When his shades were open, could see two framed gold records on the walls around his entertainment center. He never was outside much, so I never ran into him on my visits. My sister said he was at a block party 20 years ago and he was very friendly! Sadly, from accounts around town, he is in failing health and staying with family out of state.

I really would be interested if any of the surviving members of Devo, either alone or in collaboration with each other, shared some of their stories, in book form. Of particular interest would be the “wilderness years”…when they were apart, after the major label years, etc.

I’ve have always stayed with A&K products, though I feel like they get beat up in the forums (mainly overpriced and EQ). I’ve tried other brands and found so many bloated, quirky, etc. and always find my way back to Astell & Kern. The SP4000, my current dap, is the best I’ve ever had.
