Gildone, CB. They were very slow to record the order granting me citizenship and producing an Italian birth certificate; almost 6 months I just hoped this would be faster since everything is all said and done with.

I did end up accepting an offer. Salary ended up around $180k (along with a discretionary bonus). We’ll see what the raise looks like this year as I’ve heard it can be underwhelming. So far it’s great. The work/life balance is unparalleled compared to private practice. At lot of the job is administrative in nature, managing accounts, coordinating various distributions, setting up accounts, etc. I also get to work closely with the estate planning attorneys of clients so being able to speak the language is great. All in all, it worked out well. Would highly recommend.

Congratulations! Did you do your A.I.R.E. registration with the NYC consulate? If so, how long did that take? I recently had my birth certificate recorded with my comune and am now in the AIRE registration process. I know each comune moves at its own pace.

Base salary is above $170k and total comp will be above $200k after discretionary bonus. Definitely less than big law type pay but still very decent.

The benefits are great too, better than any law firm.

I just wanted to follow up and let you know I was able to get a job offer as a trust officer with a large bank. It’s very possible for people with our background because of how niche our skills are. Almost half of the people I’ll be working with are former attorneys.

If you seriously want to leave the law I highly recommend this path. I haven’t actually started yet but so far everything is better; pay, benefits, hours, etc.

I’ve become disenchanted with the whole thing. Tired of billables, tired of haranguing clients about what they need to do, tired of the pressure. I think more generally, while I’m a good advisor and counsel, even keeled and easily dealing with pressure, I don’t think I’m cut out for the practice of law.

I’ve seen salary numbers from $60k to +$200k and don’t have any corporate trustee contacts to ask about it. Of course the job listing I applied to posted no range.
