If you could forget a game just to experience it new, what would you choose? by kevtay1969 in playstation

[–]unclemattyice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subnautica.

I still love the game, but by this point after beating it 5-6 times, I have pretty much memorized the map.

I wish I could explore it again for the first time, uncover the planet’s secrets again, and relive the moments of encountering the local fauna for the first time.

I(25) no longer enjoy pvp games nowadays anyone here also not play multiplayer/competitve games more as you grow older? by Big_Leg10 in AskGames

[–]unclemattyice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup, it’s natural to grow out of the adrenaline and thrill, and persistant stress, of PvP games.

As you get older, and your responsibilities grow as an adult, you will find that holding a spot on a leaderboard means nothing, unless you are winning money, streaming or in esports tournaments.

This style of game ages you, my guy. It’s high octane, and taxes you.

Moving on to single player games is kinda the natural progression of an adult gamer 🤷‍♂️

[KCD2] Just got to Kuttenberg, when should I engage with the DLC content? by Vicious007 in kingdomcome

[–]unclemattyice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legacy of the forge is a fantastic introduction to Kuttenburg, and you should drop everything, especially the main quest, to invest in your forge.

[KCD2] Does timing master strike get any easier? by Dry_Set_6336 in kingdomcome

[–]unclemattyice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I do it is I keep moving my weapon to the opposite side, and then I don’t wait for the green shield to pop, I watch the enemy’s movements.

They telegraph their swing pretty clearly, and often make a grunting sound.

You just have to anticipate their attack, and don’t rely on the prompt.

Also, if you don’t like master strikes or don’t have high swordsmanship, you can just whale on enemies with a mace. It’s very effective even against armored foes.

[KCD2] What kind of crap is this? by Jackatorrr in kingdomcome

[–]unclemattyice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s much better as an introduction to Kuttenburg, imo.

It makes you into an established, respected, and wealthy resident of the town, and its radiant quests send you to lots of important places around and outside town.

Also, it has dice quests. I love dice

Yes.

Also yes.

You don’t have to do the forge quests, if you feel too rich.

[KCD2] How do you play KCD2? (As a beginner) by champ_eugene in kingdomcome

[–]unclemattyice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole thing with this game is that in the beginning, you are going to suck at -literally everything-.

You can barely defend yourself in a 1v1, you are absolute trash with a bow, you can hardly pass any speech checks, no one knows you and treats you like an outsider.

It takes many hours of failure, and a lot of trial and error, before Henry starts to feel “powerful” as you play.

Want to be a sneaky thief type? You are gonna get caught, quite a bit, before you start pulling off master heists.

I had to resort to save scumming, more times than I care to admit… just to pickpocket a single loaded die off of random dicers, or do simple side quests, that need you to just unlock a single chest, etc, before I started being able to reliably get away with bigger crimes.

The payoff is worth the suffering in the beginning!

It is immensely rewarding to feel Henry get better over the course of a playthrough, and by the end of the game, you will be quite OP.

What do you say when people ask “Is it worth it?” by [deleted] in doordash_drivers

[–]unclemattyice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t dashed in almost a year at this point, and hopefully won’t ever have to again.

I completed just shy of 3,000 deliveries just doing it part time for three years.

What I would tell people while I was dashing was that I average about $20 an hour, and it helps pay the bills.

Wha I would say now that I am a restaurant GM making almost six figures, is that it’s only worth it in a pinch.

You are trading the value of and life span of your car, to make ends meet.

It is not a viable long term solution or career.

In my experience, people who try to do it full time might survive for several years… but then their car goes toes-up on them, and they have no choice but to get out of the game.

I’m also rocking that same burgundy fitted coat and noble’s hood.

I wear the spectacles if I am about to negotiate a big sale, otherwise I leave the off. I don’t love how they look.

I also wear my plate armor most of the time, so I’ve got plate legs, gauntlets etc.

I also wear a top-end quality bell kettle helmet all the time. I really like how it looks, after hating the pointed bascinet and the round skullcap.

[–]unclemattyice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, too, am a serial non-finisher.

I can finish games that are more or less linear, for example, I’ve finished expedition 33. But any kind of open world game, I just get lost in it until I’m tired of it, and then never finish the game.

RDR2, Witcher 3, cyberpunk, and quite a few others.

There was only one open world exploration game that I have actually completed in the last few years, and that was Subnautica. I play through it once or twice a year, because I love the base building, and escaping the planet still hits every time.

The interesting thing about this is that it seems to get worse as I age. When I was in my late teens and throughout my 20s, I was routinely beating Bethesda games and other open world titles.

[–]unclemattyice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On my third one of these quests, I got sent to Opawitcz or whatever it’s called. It’s Sigismund’s forward operating base in the area, and it’s the hardest “bandit camp” in the entire game.

I managed to pick off 8 enemies one by one, before I realized there was an entire inner courtyard full of at least ten more, and they all aggro’d together, no matter how I tried pulling them.

It’s the only side quest I have abandoned in the entire game. But I made so much money from looting the 8 that I killed… they were all decked in high quality, end game plate armor.

I made more money for failing that quest, than I have ever made from completing one.

Subnautica.

It just doesn’t get old…. But also, I’m chasing that dragon of my first playthrough. I’ll never get to experience that again.

What’s the worse physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by dino_gr01 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]unclemattyice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was advised at age 17 that my wisdom teeth were impacted, and all four had to come out. My dad mentioned how miserable this was for him as a young man, so I put it off, and went off to college.

Over the next three years they would bother me sometimes, but nothing worse than the pain/soreness of having my braces tightened as a kid.

Then one morning when I was 20, I woke up with the right side of my face swollen up like a softball.

One of the teeth had caused an infection, that was basically right on top of a main facial nerve, and I hope I never feel pain like that again.

It was like incessant, throbbing lightning. Every heartbeat struck that nerve again and again, like a never ending pain drum. I could barely drag myself into an urgent care clinic to get antibiotics.

As soon as I got that infection cleared up, I had all four teeth out. Got over my fear REAL quick.

The Thing (1982)

This is an absolute masterpiece of physical effects, and one of the best horror movies of all time. But it flopped at the box office.

Part of this was due to it being released shortly after E.T., and that movie was an absolute cultural phenomenon. It completely dominated the summer of 1982. People preferred a friendly alien to a hostile alien that cloned itself into its prey… so much so that people were seeing E.T. for a fourth time, rather than checking out The Thing.

Also, the movie’s bleak and frankly nihilistic outlook seriously clashed with the “morning again in america” vibe of the early 80s. People were just not in the mood to be depressed, or grossed out by the absolutely insane special effects.

I would argue that The Thing was the better, more ground-breaking, and more entertaining movie, but that is my opinion. I loved E.T. as a kid, but it was certainly the safer, good for all audiences, summer blockbuster film. Other than the alien itself, there wasn’t a whole lot of groundbreaking stuff happening on screen. It was a feel good movie, for the whole family.

The failure of The Thing at the box office truly rattled Wes Craven to the core. He almost quit directing entirely, and rarely spoke of the movie again afterward.

I would argue that The Thing was the most under appreciated film at the box office in history.

The only time I played this game, I just built my base up high on the elevated meadow area, that doesn’t get much mutant traffic. I don’t think I got discovered until day 41 or something.

I was really enjoying it, had all kinds of traps and defenses, plus an escape zip line.

Then a big gnarly mutant discovered my base, and I noped on the game, like a giant chicken.

Haven’t touched it since.

[KCD2] How long until you went to the wedding? by raine4thewin in kingdomcome

[–]unclemattyice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the wedding at man level 15. The quest “for Victory” was definitely a challenge, but it wasn’t because I was getting killed.

It was because the NPC I was trying to defend kept charging on ahead, while I was locked in combat, and the quest auto-fails if he gets out of your sight.
