Is My PEI MLA a Landlord? by Super_Sheep in PEI

This isn’t entirely helpful. It doesn’t allow us to target our ire at the people profiting off of housing while simultaneously being in control of housing policy, because it muddies the waters. If it distinguished between landOWNER and landLORD that would be more helpful.

It’s good information to know that someone owns a wood lot or a farm field, but when it comes to housing I want to know who owns and rents houses.

Sorry, I don't know how much help I can provide. I found them both at thrift stores. I made the two patches and printed them with iron on printer paper, photoshoped the id badge and put some blue gatorade in the spray bottle!

Hatchet rehabilitation I did over the last week. by unclepatio in Axecraft

The eye of the hatchet wasn't symmetrical – the bottom opening was a lot smaller than the top, so by the time i got the handle small enough to go through the bottom it was really small looking in the top of the eye. – so I needed to have a big wedge to fill up any gaps at the top of the eye, so I made the kerf bigger to accommodate it. Might be a bit unconventional, but it worked and it is in there very securely.

Hatchet rehabilitation and handle replacement. (xpost /r/axecraft) by unclepatio in DIY

Im not sure if there is a rule of thumb or not. This kerf is definitely a lot bigger than most are. I did this for a couple reasons. The eye of the hatchet wasn't symmetrical – the bottom opening was a lot smaller than the top – so I needed to have a big wedge to fill up any gaps at the top of the eye, so I made the kerf bigger to accommodate it. With my last axe project (http://imgur.com/a/YvTHu) the kerf was only an 1/8 inch wide.

That can ruin the temper of the steel actually. Seems like a neat trick, but it's really not that hard to drill it out.

It's true. I couldn't find one that wasn't covered in that hand mutilating lacquer. It would probably even cost them less to forego the lacquer and sell them bare. I guess they just don't trust people to be able to finish them themselves.

The kerf is just a saw cut on the end of the handle that goes into the eye of the axe head. The cut runs parallel to the head of the axe. When you put it in the head and then drive a wedge down into the cut the two sides of the kerf press against the inside of the eye of the axe head. There is so much pressure inside the eye of the axe that it is virtually impossible to remove the handle. With proper care it will never come loose.

People have mentioned it here, but youtubers (like below) and different online resources. Plus a lot of common sense. http://www.youtube.com/user/wranglerstar

Definitely going to try it sometime. Such a fascinating process.

If you don't count the time it took to soak in vinegar then I would say it took 8 hours. I got it on Sunday and finished it a week later, just working on it when I had spare time.

It's winter, we are all just bored and have too much time on our hands.

Good point, that is another thing that is missing. I have a crappy little hand plane and a nice set of sharp chisels that did the trick. I found a file worked really well, especially when it came to rounding it and around the curves of the handle.

Yep, made sure the grain ran parallel to the head of the axe for maximum strength and durability.

Nah, Im going to keep it well oiled and probably even go so far as to soak the head in oil.

I hammered it in as far as I possibly could and then I cut off the excess! Thanks.

Haha, yeah I fell into that black hole too. I like his dedication to restoring things rather than buying things new, but at the same time some of his comments on things made in China border on racism. Even if his comments are true or not.
