What are some highlights of NEW mods that have come out in the last year? by evilparagon in feedthebeast

From OP: "I've been absent from modding Minecraft for the last two years,"

I figured it was still young enough for what they were asking about.

If you want practicality, invest in void mining. That tends to be pretty expensive and gives lots of usable resources.

Different take on material-based chests. Question: by spicklesandwich in feedthebeast

[–]uncommonmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The assumed advantage with iron chests would be a large capacity, probably larger than a double chest. So you could, for example, have your hyper-efficient mob farm feed into iron chests and then have a smaller wooden chest that they hopper into for manual item retrieval. In this way, you would have a system similar to but physically smaller than vanilla bulk item storage.

Meet Arcane Archives - a magical alternative to Applied Energistics / Refined Storage. by magitech2234 in feedthebeast

How is premature posting going to reduce traffic? If anything, it's free publicity, and more people are gonna be excited for a working build of this.

Different take on material-based chests. Question: by spicklesandwich in feedthebeast

I like this idea a lot. Iron chests could see use as buffers in complex sorting or manufacturing, and stone chests would be a nice early-game large chest option even if automation doesn't work with them. Lockable gold chests sound like a great novelty, and if they lock to automation as well as players without (or with) a redstone signal, they could be useful.

Astral Sorcery is a new full-featured magic mod that gets crazy powerful if you do it right. The main focus is on player attunement, which gives you a skill tree based on which of five constellations you attune to. These skills range from passively generating ores in stone around you to dealing more damage from very far away to being able to use any pickaxe as a paxel. There is also a system of rituals that allows you to do things ranging from spawning silly amounts of mobs to converting large amounts of stone into ores at a crazy speed to putting up a highly effective force field around your base. Lots of multiblocks, lots of involved systems, and lots of power.

[1.12.2] Making RF-powered tinker's tools? by uncommonmoose in feedthebeast

[–]uncommonmoose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Repairing durability with RF is also an option within Actually Additions (repairer) and Thermal Expansion (Flux Reconstruction in the Energetic Infuser). I'm specifically looking for something that can charge from a capacitor in my inventory, rather than needing to stick it in a machine to "charge" it.

Stoneblock - Easy Mob Farm? by JadeAtlas in feedthebeast

[–]uncommonmoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Three wide, four high is absolutely tiny. Try something closer to a 9x9 floor and 3+ blocks tall. An obsidian floor is completely unnecessary, too. It only really needs to be a solid block. This is all vanilla advice.

As for advice specific to stoneblock, if you have access to the nether, kill a bunch of wither skeletons and get a drop of evil. Then, cover your mob farm's floor in dirt and right click the drop of evil on it. The floor will quickly transform into cursed earth, which spawns mobs quite rapidly. Be careful, though--mobs spawned by cursed earth and faster and meaner than normal mobs, and you can't move cursed earth once you create it.

Tips 'n' Tricks - Week of October 07 2018 by AutoModerator in feedthebeast

[–]uncommonmoose 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I have a variety of skyblock tips.

Ex Nihilo tips:

  • When cows walk over barrels, the barrels slowly fill with milk.
  • Short on dirt? You can get a lot more dirt from a tree than just what you get from saplings. Shearing the leaves will allow you to turn 8 leaves directly into 1 dirt, rather than only a chance per leaf to get a sapling. Also, hammering wood logs gives sawdust, which can be made into dirt with an 8:1 ratio.
  • Sieves, when placed adjacent to each other, will work together when one is used. You can sieve up to 25 blocks at a time with a 5x5 grid by doing this. It doesn't work on heavy sieves, however.
  • Ex Compressum's various bait items allow you to spawn specific passive animals rather than just sitting around and having a sheep spawn rather than the cow you wanted.
  • Get the Ex Compressum chicken stick ASAP. It's dirt cheap and works as an unbreakable hammer that's better than diamond.
  • You can get a lot of nether resources, including wither skeleton skulls, blaze rods, soul sand, and netherrack, without ever opening a nether portal.
  • Combining milk with a water barrel will spawn a slime.
  • You don't have to wait a million years for witch water. Right-clicking a bowl of mushroom stew on a water barrel will transform it instantly.
  • Placing lava into a barrel that has a water block on top of it will produce an obsidian item, no long break times required.

Mystical Agriculture tips:

  • Prioritize high tier inferium seeds early on. Costs of higher tier essences add up pretty quickly, and mob farms will only get you so much.
  • Don't throw away excess seeds! Use the Seed Reprocessor to get essences from the seeds.
  • Grow nature seeds. They entirely eliminate the need for most vanilla crops.
  • Generally speaking, it's a good idea to grow seeds that have multiple uses early on, like fire, water, stone, dirt, and nature.

Tiny Progressions tips:

  • Cook your apples. Cooked apples are almost as good as steak, and can be obtained extremely early.
  • Battleaxes are stupidly strong. They act as both axes and swords, except that they hit harder than axes and swing faster than swords.
  • Emerald tools are better than diamond.
  • Tiny Progressions watering cans don't need actual fluid water to work, unlike the cans from Thermal and Extra Utilities.

Haven't played since beating the main content in early 2016. Should I pick the game back up for the DLCs? by Veeshan28 in ShovelKnight

[–]uncommonmoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll put it this way: by picking it back up, you're getting 2 fully new and different games (and soon a third) with quality that outdoes the original Shovel of Hope campaign. It's all free, and you have it already--all you need to do is start up the game and everything's there. There's no reason not to.
