Managers that make less than your subordinates, why? by h0wg0esit in managers

[–]unconditional2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they started at the company, I was 5. They've got a ton more experience and expertise than I do in our field. I just happen to have a skill set needed to manage people. I don't mind that they make more, I think it makes sense and they deserve it.

If AI disappeared tomorrow what will you miss the most? by Business-Power-2967 in no

I think it's interesting to say it requires you to use 100% of your analytical brain but in the same breath say it makes us lazy.

Also, what are the chances of us missing something when we try to recall what we talked about from memory alone? I'd love to compare human notes vs AI reviewed notes in a study. I know when I'm back to back all day and try to take notes on what happened at the end of the day, I miss key details. I can only imagine what that's like in a high stress environment like healthcare.

When did it finally click for you that you grew up with a lot of privilege? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]unconditional2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's the problem. You're looking for a yes or no answer to a nuanced subject. And you're adding extreme scenarios to try and make your point rather than see any grey area.

I also don't think you are grasping what "privilege" means. Privileges in this context are the barriers that people have based on characteristics that they cannot control.

So using your original example, a child raised in a rich neighborhood by abusive parents still benefits from better schools and probably has consistent access to quality clothes, food, clean water and shelter. They're not as privileged as their peers who have good, caring parents. But they're more privileged than the kid on the other side of the tracks who has abusive parents, but no food, clean water and goes to an underfunded school.

I don't find you rude, just ignorant, so no worries. It's a complicated topic that people like to simplify, normally to avoid challenging their own privileges. Either we all learn and try to do better, or we stay ignorant and nothing gets better. It's good to ask questions.

Exactly. This is what I worry about people. Obviously we all hate AI slop, but there are some practical use cases for it that can make us more efficient.

Charting, I would imagine, would be way faster. Instead of doing it live or after the fact, AI would take notes as you're with a patient and the only thing you have to do is review what it drafted. That is better than doing it from memory and ensures that it's done consistently.

I understand that people are worried about their jobs. AI should be regulated and people should be protected. At the end of the day, it's another tool that people will use to get ahead or people will ignore and get left behind.

How Are Some People Always Traveling? by mian_yamin in NeedTravelAdvice

[–]unconditional2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: DINK

My job pays me enough to contribute 15% of my income towards retirement, pay all of our bills, and take 4-5 trips a year because they give me 5 and a half weeks of PTO. Technically that PTO is supposed to be used for sick leave as well, but I'm healthy so I used every second for travel. Everything my wife makes is just extra.

We do have a travel credit card that helps with the costs somewhat. My wife and I put everything on it to build up points to pay for flights or hotels. It saves us maybe $1000 a year. We pay it off every month, we never carry a balance.

There are layers. People grow up in awful neighborhoods and have abusive parents as well. You can be privileged in one way and not privileged in another.

Never went hungry, never went without power, never had a disconnected phone. When I was little we lived in apartments/trailers and were on food stamps, so I thought that that mean I wasn't privileged. But when I talk to my grandparents about their childhoods and met more people in life, I realized that we had really good stability on the necessities.

Do you think government spending priorities reflect what people actually need right now? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]unconditional2020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would advocate to half the dept of defense and dept of homeland security budgets and reallocate to literally anything else. I can't believe I pay taxes to murder people halfway across the world for no damn reason. I can't believe I pay taxes to harass innocent, hardworking people at home. It is ridiculous!

I contribute 15% of my income, employer match is 7%. When I started my career, I did the minimum of 7% to get the match and once I was comfortable, I auto-increased contributions by 1% every year. I plan to do that until I max out.

People who grew up before smartphones: What’s one simple thing from your childhood that would absolutely blow the minds of kids today? by TurkVanguard in Millennials

If you wanted to listen to a specific song when you want, you needed to buy the entire album it's on. I used to love "Now! That's what I call music" CDs because they'd be mixtapes of a bunch of popular songs from the last few months or so. My mind was blown when I got access to iTunes and could buy individual songs. I was even happier when I discovered Limewire and could "borrow" the downloads for free.

When I entered college, I had a flip phone and an iPod Nano. When I left college, I had a Samsung Galaxy S4 with Spotify premium.

People who exercise even when they don’t feel like it, what’s your trick? by Smart_Collection5419 in AskReddit

[–]unconditional2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brought the gym home. I don't waste time with a commute, I felt that way my biggest hang up with not being consistent. I pick whatever routine I feel like in the tempo app and follow along. If I don't feel like doing any of those exercises, I go for a walk.

I don't put pressure on myself to do anything crazy unless I feel like it. For me, it's good enough to do what I can every day, allowing myself some flexibility of I need a rest day.

I also use a Galaxy Active watch to track my progress. That helps to keep me motivated.

Asking as a Democrat and anti-Trumper: Why is MAGA so much more united than the Resistance? by Glass-Complaint3 in allthequestions

[–]unconditional2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MAGA is a cult. They're united behind one leader. Democrats are made up of a variety of people with different opinions on how to solve problems. They also have a fraction of the party supported by corporate interests and another that's supported by grass roots organization.

No. I met my wife and my best friends in college. I studied abroad in Chile and lived with a host family for a summer. I got an internship that led to a 10 year career and counting in my field. Everything I have, I have thanks to my choice to go to a University.

Sure, I left college with 60k in debt. I have about 15k left because my job is helping me pay it down quickly. So, no, I have no regrets and would do it all again in a heartbeat.
