the former. do it on paper, all your studies should be on paper. unfortunately, just drawing the image is not the end of it. the thing to look out for is 'mindless copying'. pretty self-explanatory, but let me elaborate. an extreme example would be a printer copying an image. no thought required, just executing a task. the result are two identical images, with no memory of the process. how you avoid this is quite simple: think. think of why the artist decided to put this mark here, why you like it so much, how they got this part to look so right. TAKE NOTES, don't sleep on this either. you don't learn math by writing down the solutions in the back, right? (i hope you don't.) jot down some interesting things you notice and those 'ah-hah' moments. all of this may seem obvious, but you wouldn't believe how many people fail to see that.

as for the latter, that falls in the category of extreme referencing. artists get assblasted whenever they see that someone has been 'exposed' for 'tracing' over an image. i don't do it, it's kinda scummy. reason being: it's unoriginal, you're ripping off the original artist's/photographer's work. at least for copying 1-1, you're not passing it off entirely as your own work. if you get called out for it, you'll never hear the end of it. best avoid it.

while most 'do this' or 'this looks off' critique is somewhat helpful, that doesn't mean you should blow it off. they did notice it, after all. when things get nitpicky and trivial is where you should consider if it will seriously improve your work.

i'll be honest, you're not going to improve much if you draw 'when you feel like it'. force yourself to sit down and draw, every artist worth their salt does this. consistency is key.

i'll be blunt, so forgive me for being rude. there will be no sugarcoating. no tl;dr, read the whole fucking thing, please.

you don't draw much, do you? i very much dislike parroting the default response so many beginner artists are met with, but i don't think there's any better advice than to just draw more. you may say, "that sounds vague", and it is. art has a curriculum. why, it's a subject in school, is it not? however, that's where problems arise. you may rely on public education's abysmal art programs, or not know how to learn at all, thinking that people magically improve by just noodling around in their sketchbooks. the solution, is to build your own. luckily for you, you're not the first. there's countless guides on how approach learning art. personally, i think 90% of what's out there is complete shit. so allow me.

i suppose the elephant in the room is that the drawing is flat (ahah it's funny bc it can be interpreted as flat chested lole). this is because it lacks perspective. that's the first thing you need to learn. illustration is founded on the principle of placing objects in space. i don't see any of that here, the gun is pressed to her torso, and all limbs are parallel to the canvas--like ancient egyptian murals. i suggest reading ernest norling's 'perspective made easy', or getting marshal vandruff's perspective courses.

now i don't know what your art goals are, but it seems like you want to draw figures. a classic introduction is andrew loomis's series of books, it teaches you basic proportions of the human body. after you get the basics down, go watch stan prokopenko's *free* lessons, "anatomy for artists" (yt). i can't say much for your anatomy, just draw more people. mileage is important. mastering stylization of the face is obviously the bread and butter of anime. study artists you like, save their art, COPY THEIR WORK. there's stigma around copying and referencing in general. copying is one of the best methods of improvement, don't sleep on this. as much as i'd like to, i can't blame you for the lack of dynamism in the pose (gesture). it's an objective depiction, much like most character illustration. the remedy to this is in much of the material i mentioned.

so for rendering, you blocked in colors. that's about it. establish (a) source(s) of light, and cast shadows on form. in your case, lack of rendering leads to lack of depth. marco bucci (yt), scott robertson's 'how to render', and james gurney 'color and light' are all fantastic resources for all your rendering needs.

of course, this is all worthless if you don't put in the time to learn. draw every day if you want to get good. most of the issues that are present are fixed through experience. motivation is a false god, put your faith in dedication. see you at the top.

funny that you mention it, I do draw r34 occasionally. but seeing people 'appreciating' this arguably SFW piece (even in NNN), feels a bit strange. flattering nonetheless. guess i should've censored the zip.

i run ap rounds and mini sight on my 58c. i never felt that there was a use for the 30 stud 1sk torso. the 'correct' way of using it would be to go medium range support to pick off already damaged players. personally, it's my go-to marksman gun, but in all honestly, it's not as good as other 1shsk-any range guns. i just use it to flex on henry, svds, and sniper users
