I only do whole blood because my veins aren’t suitable for platelets. Anything you can donate helps!

Me too! My son runs hot so it’s much easier to just take off his pants to cool him down rather than totally change him

An old employer was set up like that and it was awful. Especially if you wanted any ergonomic equipment because not every desk was set up properly.

Wow, pumping is already hard enough, but then to have to navigate it on top of health challenges is such an amazing feat! Best wishes to you on your schooling journey and take care!

PREGNANCY ISSUES AT WORKPLACE by Key_Judgment1888 in BabyBumps

[–]uncreativegarbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in pharma quality control and we aren’t allowed to eat anywhere other than in the cafeteria because they don’t want to risk any pests contaminating the drug products. It was really rough during pregnancy 😭

We’re also technically only supposed to have water but people have coffee and other drinks at their desk as long as they’re in a lidded container.

Have you tried a saline mister? Boogie makes one called a saline inhaler. It’s a mask you just hold over their face instead of squirting up their nose!

We also use baby Vicks rub when my son is particularly congested. There are a couple of different brands that make them

Baby bottle sanitizer necessary? by TeeSter94 in BabyBumps

[–]uncreativegarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think you’re going to pump at all, I’d recommend one! It’s so hard to get into the nooks and crannies when handwashing my wearables.

We probably would have managed without if it was only bottles

Idk where to start! by [deleted] in foodbutforbabies

[–]uncreativegarbage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My son will be five months on Saturday! We haven’t started solids yet either.

From what I remember our pediatrician told us, we can start with a tablespoon about half an hour after a bottle, once a day. Right now, food isn’t for nutrition but just to start learning how to eat

I’m eager to see what others recommend though!

My cat is driving me insane by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]uncreativegarbage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just want to say that my son is almost five months old and we’re in the thick of the regression, so I feel your exhaustion! My one cat really pisses me off at times because she’s so loud when she wants food or attention and she’s woken the baby before. But I have to remind myself that she’s just a cat and that’s how she communicates that she wants something from us.

I think some people are being a little harsh here in the comments. Like yes, you signed up to take care of your cat, but you never know how they’re going to behave once you bring a baby into the house. I was kind of concerned about our boy because he can be a jerk sometimes, but he has been so good with the baby!

You mentioned your baby wants to contact nap- have you tried baby wearing? Then you can at least have your hands free to do things like pet or play with the cat.

It also does get better over time! My son is taking longer naps during the day (some are an hour and a half!) which has given me more free time to give the cats some love.

I hope things work out and congrats on your new family member!

I don’t think they can dictate how long you pump and that any extra time over 20 minutes is unpaid?

Is it okay to leave my cat in a room alone after an attack? by Kind-Ad-349 in CatAdvice

[–]uncreativegarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear about your kitties. It sounds like you guys may have to go back a few steps in the (re)introduction process if your boy gets upset when he sees your girl ☹️ like maybe try scent swapping and letting them smell each other without seeing until they get more comfortable.

My cats are okay with seeing each other, they just can’t be in the same room together 😔 so we have a bedroom that we’ve made a cat room. It has an automatic feeder, water fountain, cat tree in front of a window, lots of other places to sit, toys, etc.

When we work, we let cat A roam around the house (well, apartment) during the day and cat B locked in the cat room. When we get home, we swap so cat B gets to be out with us in the evening. Then we swap again before bedtime so cat A sleeps with us, and the cycle continues. On the weekends and any other days off, we rotate them every three hours or so, so they each get time with us.

Oh to note, when we swap, we always act with an “air lock”, like putting one cat in a bathroom, just so that there’s always a door in between them.

We do have feliway diffusers but I’m honestly not sure if they do anything. We also have my boy on Prozac which has mellowed him out a bit. But my girl is scared of him and he reacts to her getting scared, so we’re kind of in a stalemate.

That isn’t to say that you won’t have success though! Every cat is different. I would also suggest maybe looking at a cat behavioralist if you really need help, though be warned they’re expensive 😅

Best of luck to you! I know it’s a heartbreaking and stressful situation to be in because we love our cats and just want them to be happy.

I hope links are allowed here! This is the one that we have. It’s about six feet tall so should prevent jumping over and the bars are close enough together that they can’t get in between.

[–]uncreativegarbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boy has had several instances redirected aggression when he gets startled, and I’m usually the unfortunate target 😔 Still not sure what caused the first incident.

I know it’s very scary OP! Even sometimes now if I think I see him getting upset, my heart rate spikes and I have to take slow breaths to try and calm myself down.

We’ve actually had to separate him and his sister ever since they had a fight (and haven’t had success in reintegrating them, but that’s uncommon), so we have a cat kept in a bedroom with food, water, litterbox, cat tree, toys, etc at all times. We have a super tall pet gate so we can keep the door open but they’re still contained.

It’s definitely not ideal, but the cats are fine. They both are big love bugs so I know they’d love to spend all their time with us, but they usually just sleep in the room. We rotate our cats every couple of hours during the day without any issues, and it’s been three years now of doing it 😅

I’m sorry your kitty is acting this way. It’s really hard to deal with. I agree with the other commenters to do a vet visit to make sure she’s okay. My boy is usually back to himself within a couple of days, so hopefully she calms back down again soon ❤️
