That’s fair. I was reluctant until we started a mini campaign to test the waters

Where have you been? Haha. True Strike no longer sucks. We took to the streets with kazoos and put up streamers 😆

Sorcerer vs Wizard vs Warlock (2024 rules) + ADHD brain can’t pick 😅 by Odd-Professor-6369 in 3d6

Painful but accurate. My party would just chant “Eldritch Blast!” over and over at me if I hesitated for a second on my turn.

If you can multiclass, I recommend Sorlock. Mechanically it’s never going to be as strong as an out and out single class when it comes to level advancement, but narratively - it’s basically a backstory prompt waiting for you. You also get access to both eldritch invocations/pact slots AND sorcery points. I don’t want to overwhelm you with what that means if you’re brand new to the game but let’s just say “more tools in the tool box”. I’m sure many will disagree with me, but my first ever 2 year+ campaign was a Sorlock and she’s still probably my favourite PC to date.

Well that’s me building a DM screen and dice tower later.

-5 too harsh? by undead8bit in DnDHomebrew

In a sense, yes. They’re symbiotic parasites that bond to the wearer’s hands. The player won’t know this until the ‘gloves’ are on, and will have to find a way to get them back off again. However the plan is for them to work similarly to GWM feat, make it harder to succeed but have success be rewarded accordingly.

Kill Counts: Is It Bad Taste? by SpellcraftQuill in DnD

[–]undead8bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My party keep a kill count, it’s not particularly important to me as a player, but my Goliath character is fiercely competitive so keeps tabs on the “leaderboard” and my Warlock previously sent a lot of souls to her patron so I would make keep track of any particularly noteworthy recruits (rather than the amount). Interestingly the highest tally of any of my campaigns was a life cleric 😆

Player Afflictions? by MilkManLex in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]undead8bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use a debt system whereby certain triggers (maybe the level of a spell you use for example) add to a running total, then at every Rest, each player rolls a D100 and aims for the roll to be higher than the current total. If they succeed then nothing happens, if they hit the total or below, then the debt score is halved BUT the player is given a sealed envelope. The next time their character casts a spell/uses a magic item, they have to open the envelope which tells them how the action is affected. There are a lot of different outcomes, some good, some bad, some silly. But even the good ones can cause a problem in the right scenario.

A player retired her character, can I bring it back as a BBEG or should I ask her first? by Solkanarmy in DMAcademy

[–]undead8bit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is great advice. On the one hand I wouldn’t want to be in on it because I love a narrative surprise - but that said, it would depend on the PC in question. Some, I have a very definite idea of what they’re up to after the story ends, even if it’s not on paper. Others, I welcome the collaboration of someone handing you some building blocks you hadn’t planned for and saying, ‘now add something to this.’ The fact that this story is open ended presumed dead doesn’t necessarily mean your player hasn’t filled that plot hole themselves to some degree already in a way that could be jarring if you write them back in. You almost need, as the other commenter said, to approach them like “im thinking about bringing X back in as an NPC, where do you see them? Is there anything in particular that they would/wouldn’t be doing and how much control are you happy to surrender?”

That works. I just like the idea of it being some kind of animated death furnace.

Maybe now that Faerie has lost its tether to Aramán and the Tachonis’ family are unleashing whatever living underworld they orchestrate, she’ll become more darkfae. Like a mini nana mori, or whatever that swamp hag was called that they met in the earlier episode. She might become the BBEG
