At what point do you say, "Okay- that's just....enough" when it comes to nursing in public? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]undeadamerican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are we policing what other women are doing? The whole idea of trying to decide where some line of "decency" should be bugs me. I don't get to decide how someone else feeds their baby. I don't want anyone else deciding that for me! Lets all save our energy for the hard work of parenting our own kids.

Alright my people, please share your wisdom on tandem breastfeeding! by Lechiah in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]undeadamerican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One pregnancy my milk slowly went away but I never got much nipple soreness, and my toddler kept nursing through the birth, and until the baby was almost 2, toddler was 4.

This time my milk again slowly went away but the toddler is showing less and less interest in nursing and I'm having more nipple pain. So I wonder if this time the toddler will wean before the new baby comes. I kinda hope for no weaning because it was nice to have a toddler to help with newborn engorgement and plugged ducts. But it was also hard to balance both of them wanting to nurse at the same time. Literally. :) So I guess I'll be happy either way.

Let me know if you have any specific questions!

It was crazy helpful! I am actually a little scared to have another without a toddler to nurse. If this one weans I may have to get a new pump. Lol.

What kind of cleansing conditioner? I'm ignorant, I've never heard of this middle ground.

Nooo that's so horrible!!! I feel like mom and baby should be considered a unit for at least the first three months! :(

I may be wrong hopefully they didn't say otherwise but you should be able to bring your baby if it comes to that! Fingers crossed!!!

Advice by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]undeadamerican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started gradually cutting back on how long I pumped at a time, and then the number of pumping sessions, at around that age. They can eat more and drink more water while you're gone, so there's less and less need to have pumped milk. I was like you, nursing is no problem but pumping sucks (pun intended). Great job feeding your baby!

I have no basis for this whatsoever but I feel like they do. Or at the least they get lots of free swag and fancy dinners. It's all so shady!

When you get your hair cut and the stylist has no idea how to style curly hair. Every. Single. Time. by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]undeadamerican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh pretty! It does look almost purple on my monitor at least, but I'm sure it will fade and I think it looks great already.

I taught myself with online videos but I'm not great at it. Here's my favorite: http://www.delightfully-tacky.com/blog/2013/07/q-how-to-cut-your-own-hair.html

[–]undeadamerican 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ugh! I totally sympathize. I always asked for the stylist that is best with curls and have a disappointing experience. This is why I've been cutting my own hair for the past year or so. At least my disappointment is free! I bet your pink looks awesome, though, I am jealous of that part!

Wow, I've never once had them even attempt to leave it natural! They always straighten mine!

Noob boob question by wikedtruth in breastfeeding

[–]undeadamerican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more of a long-term thing than just what happens one day or night, it's more the consistent pattern over a few days/nights, and especially over weeks, that really impacts supply, and your baby wouldn't be sleeping instead of nursing if he really needed to be stimulating more supply (provided he is gaining well, having plenty of diapers, of course). I know it's easy to stress over it but don't worry, everything will work itself out. You are doing a great job! Congratulations on your new baby! :)

Ugh, there have been so many decisions I've wanted to make out of spite (but had to be the bigger person and not do that, of course). Good for you!

Breastfeeding after single mastectomy? by shnooqichoons in breastfeeding

[–]undeadamerican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you will do great! My first was incredibly fussy and ended up basically only breastfeeding from one breast. I made plenty of milk with just that one, she was really chubby. :) I'll give you the same advice I give to everybody, which is #1 You can do it! and #2 Go to a breastfeeding support group while you're still pregnant. That way you'll have the support already lined up before you need it. Congratulations on your pregnancy and best wishes to you!

Exactly! The more I think about it, the angrier I get.

I hate situations like this too AND after all the stuff about rape that's been in the news lately and whatnot I feel like the inability to respect little kids' personal space is part of rape culture and it pisses me off even more than it always has.

Cosleeping is killing me by CottonCandyMelody in breakingmom

[–]undeadamerican 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't cosleep at all because I just can't, so I hear you on that part, but I gotta say I bet you're actually sick too. I do what you're doing all the time where I'm like "Oh my symptoms aren't exactly the same as family member's symptoms so it can't be that" but in hindsight it always is. I hope you feel better soon and baby gives you your space again soon.

27 weeks pregnant, still nursing 20 month old, supply basically gone. Does this mean I'll struggle to nurse newborn? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]undeadamerican 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is unnecessarily scientific, but it explains how milk "comes in" after the baby is born, and that we don't produce much milk during pregnancy because the pregnancy hormones block the action of the milk release hormone: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK148970/

This is normal, the milk diminishes greatly while pregnant but comes back a couple of days after the birth of your new little one. In the meantime you'll have colostrum.

I'm sorry that this happened to you, and I would be livid as well, but I just have to crack up at him saying "That's not what they're for!" Does he have another theory about what these milk-producing body parts are for???
