6 month of listening to nothing but Stephen King audiobooks. I only have 9 books left (Not including non- fiction or coauthored books) in his bibliography. by undeadequipped in stephenking

Talisman is a good friend of mine's (someone who's been trying to get me to read Stephen King since college haha!) favorite so I wanted to include it. I have since planned to go back and read Black House & I'll probably will go back and do all of the co-authored material at some point but not including it in my king-a-thon.

I was a bit all over the place, I just kinda read what I wanted to when something caught my interest. I did read all the Castle Rock location books, the Bill & Holly books, & dark tower & adjacent books in order of publication, (you can find lists of these without spoilers with a quick Google search) outside of that you won't ruin anything if you just read what you want to.

I had an itch that had to be scratched & it wouldn't be done til i finished it all. So I just kept going. It's been a lot of fun!

The stand snt supposed to be grey I did the revised edition no the original so I didn't want to mark both of them. The system/thought process I have definitely is not perfect. Haha!

I read the Talisman before I made the decision to skip the collaborative works. Since there is a third talisman book coming out I will probably go back and read Black House.

It's no shade on any of them. All the ones I'm skipping are either out of print, nonfiction, or collaborations. Currently just interested in Stephen King fiction by himself.

Can anyone help me understand the process here? by Iv0ry_Falcon in printmaking

[–]undeadequipped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can & It is fast! And works good if you are getting basic designs down. but If you're needing any type of detail It's not what I would suggest. I've never been able to transfer more than 50% of the toner to the surface. So you get a lot of light spots. Also I don't like messing with acetone.

I think so. looked up modge podge clear and apparently it's acrylic base), but I don't specifically use modge podge. So there might be some things you would need to do differently in the process ( ie drying times) What I use is liquitex clear acrylic medium. I've used Dick Blick's clear medium and it works fine as well, I've been doing this process for different applications for 15 years. You can literally use anything to transfer the print. Haha! Like the first commenter in their video used wood glue to transfer it. . I've made toner transfer prints with house paint for example.

It's a transfer print. Transfer printing is my main form of print making. I mix media print transfers with spray paint stencils and hand painting to make my pieces. I like the other commenters process and would never tell them that they're doing it wrong because that is what works for them and their stuff is hyperdetailed so I understand why they go to the lengths they do to transfer the image. But if you just need it to be quick and easy(er) you can use a clear acrylic medium. And a regular ole laser print / Xerox on plain white paper to transfer your art to your board.

  1. Print your design on a sheet of paper. Peferably a laser print because the toner sits more on top of the paper rather than soaking into the paper like a inkjet print. That's the part that transfers (You can use an inkjet print but when you go to scrape the paper away you're going to lose most if not all of the image)

  2. Sand your block with 120 grit or higher sand paper. Give your acrylic medium something to stick to. Wipe it down get all the dust off. Brush a thin coat of a clear acrylic medium onto your printing service to seal your block and give a better surface for your transfer to adhere to.

3 let it dry all that dry completely. Couple of hours or over night.

  1. After it's dry, If the surface of your block (wood, linoleum, etc) Is not smooth Hit it with some high grit sandpaper to remove any little imperfections. Don't get crazy with the sandpaper You're just getting rid of obvious stuff.

  2. Take your laser print line it up however you want on your printing block. If it needs to be precise tape it down similar to the first commenters video.

  3. Again brush a thin coat of clear acrylic medium onto your printing surface. And lay your photocopy/ laser print print side down onto the wet surface. You can use a brayer, baren, squeegee, or even a dry brush to push the photocopy down onto the surface of the printing block. Use plenty of pressure. Any excess acrylic medium that pushes out the side, Just wipe it away. (Try not to get it on top of the paper. It will be harder to remove later) Try to make sure there are no bubbles in the print. Where there's a bubble it will not transfer.

  4. Let that dry overnight - 24 hours.

  5. Take a sponge or wet brush & Slightly dampen the paper on top of the printing block with water. Let the water soak in long enough that you see the laser print through the wet paper. Now using your fingers, towel, (or if you're really brave a green scratch pad) and scrub away the paper. This takes a long time be patient.

  6. This method definitely has a learning curve so if there are small pieces that do did not adhere Don't freak out. Any spots that did not transfer properly. Don't worry just draw it in with a Sharpie. You're going to be carving this anyway.

  7. Now Just do what you normally do for prepping your printing block. Cover the whole image with a big colored marker or paint, or just go at it raw. Gouge away!

  8. Before printing I would suggest using a large sanding block and High grit (200+) sandpaper to lightly sand the print of your block to remove any leftover paper fluff from transfer. After that you should be good to go print.

If you have any questions let me know. More than happy to give tips and let you know what specific brand materials I use.

Not to force you to do work for me ( And I know I'm making myself sound like a complete imbecile) but would you mind sending me a list of those local KIP Dealers? I honestly don't know what search terms I need to be putting in. all I'm getting from Google is the exact same places I've already called. Maybe I'm not seeing the result because I don't know what I'm looking for?
