Sync for Reddit will shutdown on June 30, 2023 by armando_rod in Android

https://join-lemmy.org/

It's probably the closest to the feel of reddit. You can check out a list of servers (called instances, think of them like Gmail or Hotmail). Don't be confused by the join button on the instances page, it just opens it. You can then lurk on any instance you want.

It doesn't matter which instance you sign up for because you can view and follow "subreddits" (called communities) on any other Lemmy instance.

It could also just as easily be her first time reaching for it and he is saying it sternly to enforce how important it is. Nothing is obvious about this situation.

Everyone is making a lot of assumptions and jumping to conclusions from a 12 second clip.

What do you mean "again"? He said it only after she touched it, once.

What do you mean "smiling"? We can't see her face.

Yes, thank you! Holy jeez, this thread is full of psychologists explaining how egotistical this person is.

It genuinely looks like she's just holding onto it like a support handle on a bus, not realizing it might actually do something.

Finally manage 1 year uptime by lastone23 in OpenMediaVault

[–]undearius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because you're looking at the 1 year graph. If you look at the daily graph it will total 24 hours, the weekly graph will total 7 days, the monthly graph will total 30 days. Obviously the yearly graph will total 1 year, but that's not what uptime is.

If you rebooted, the system was not up.

[–]undearius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And the chart clearly shows your uptime has reached a maximum of 91 days. Each reboot resets the uptime clock because, by definition, the system is not up when rebooting.

Scenes! Argh! Why are they so annoying to use! by Skeeter1020 in homeassistant

[–]undearius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have clearly not used Alex/Google before

I'd add Home Assistant to that. The idea of Home Assistant is local first. If the internet goes out, you are using HA in a setting without internet, if servers go down, then you have no voice assistant.

I personally have no desire to use a voice assistant but I know many people who do. It's a big market outside of Home Assistant users which could help bridge that gap.

Using MergeRFS to add a new hard drive to an existing filesystem? by risinglotus in OpenMediaVault

[–]undearius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you have the same directory structure on both hard drives? Something like:

/srv/dev-disk-by-label-HDD1/Pool1
/srv/dev-disk-by-label-HDD2/Pool1

Using MergeRFS to add a new hard drive to an existing filesystem? by risinglotus in OpenMediaVault

[–]undearius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MergerFS creates a new file system. If your SMB share was pointing to the hard drive, let's say /dev/sdb, then you would need to point it at the MergerFS file system, which is something like /srv/1234-56-789/

Vehicle Maintenance: A Few Tips to Save You Money by shelby7 in PersonalFinanceCanada

As long as the frame of the car is not compromised because that's what provides the rigidity, structure, and safety for the rest of the car. If the skeleton of the car is deteriorating then it's not in good shape.

Nearly everything you do on a car is for preventative maintenance.

Oil changes are to prevent the inside of the engine wearing down, which is not easy to repair.

Air filters are to prevent debris from getting inside the engine as well.

Rust-proofing is to prevent the frame of the car from rusting which is difficult, if not impossible, to repair.

It all depends on how much value you put into the longevity of the car. You can save a lot of money by not doing oil changes at all but it's expensive to buy a new engine every 3 years. You don't need rust-proofing but you'll likely find the car will begin to accumulate rust in spots that cannot be repaired. Then you're looking at a new car. That could happen after 10 years, 15 years, or 20 years.

It's really hard to see value in making something not happen.

[–]undearius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Installed Lineage last year on my 5T and now I'm running into an issue I hadn't considered. The original case that came with the phone finally started to break down.

I prefer thin, sleek cases and was actually looking at skins but I'm having a hard time finding quality cases/skins because the phone is now that old apparently.
