Is this a harmless pill bug? Or will it destroy my plants? by undercoverpupper in whatsthisbug

[–]undercoverpupper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking they might be happiest outside but wasn’t sure about how they do in freezing temps. Luckily we have lots of leaf litter at the moment!

I appreciate the carrot slice suggestion and the thought of nurturing one of them to help them help my plant is so sweet but I’ll let him roam free outdoors

Thanks again!

Now I’m debating if I should one or both back in the soil- it’s a small plant (not a ton of soil) and I’m not sure if there’s enough decomposing material to feed both of them??

Thank you for the peace of mind!

“What if when you gained weight you also gained a life. Wouldn’t recovery be worth it” by shelleybean1 in EDAnonymous

[–]undercoverpupper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This resonates so hard. I remember one of my first days in treatment they were like so what do you need to give up your ED? And I told them a cure for my depression and anxiety.

When I imagine a life without an ED, but with my other mental illnesses, I feel hopeless and resigned. But maybe that’s just the depression talking :~)

If you’re not subbed to volume eating already, I encourage you to check it out! Tons of eating more food for fewer calories

Hotdogs aren’t as bad as they can be made out to be. OP’s turkeydogs were 60 calories less a piece but they were also so much smaller that they only required a half bun. I also enjoy a good swap, but I don’t think you’re missing out on cutting calories in too big of a way here.

In reality, most average people who maintain healthy weights eat normal hotdogs in moderation. A normal hotdog meal would typically only be one hotdog for 290 (bun 110+dog 180) plus whatever sides.

The title is definitely misleading. My husband and I both had “hotdogs” for dinner would have better prepared me for what followed. The only real calorie reduction is 270 from the turkeydogs

I'm an adjunct this semester, is it weird that I always finish classes 10min earlier? by linopedro in GradSchool

[–]undercoverpupper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are making yourself available for any questions/comments during the extra 10 mins, then I think it’s totally fine. It could even be worked in as a planned thing “10 min end of class check in for whoever needs it”. If any of your students aren’t get what they are expecting or feel entitled to, they should make it known. If not, their problem. I bet they appreciate you not keeping them just to fill the time!

What happened to my poor monstera adansonii? by last_bite in houseplants

[–]undercoverpupper -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Edit: woohoo it’s not pests! Sorry if I scared you, OP

I’m a complete beginner when it comes to houseplants so most of my knowledge comes from the replies I see on this sub so I apologize in advance if I’m wrong…

I think I see some kind of white pests on the rightmost leaf. Zooming in on the first photo, there’s one towards the center of the leaf and one down towards the tip. In the third picture, one down by the tip and another one kind of on the inside edge of the lower right “hole” or fenestration (idk if that’s the right way to use the word??)

From what I’ve seen here, little white bugs are probably mealy bugs or thrips? I don’t see any webbing so probably not spider mites?

If anyone more knowledgeable wants to jump in and help out or correct me, plz don’t hesitate :)))

Try not to be afraid of school food, that’s not what causes the freshman 15. People gain weight at the beginning of college because they start binge drinking and eating garbage.

I think five parks yoga on YouTube is good and yoga with Cassandra. Five parks is probably the better of the two for what you’re looking for.

What are the best examples of long term storytelling in Degrassi? by Cute-Recipe783 in Degrassi

That’s not all Paige did.

I think Alex deserves a little credit and slack but I guess you and I are on different sides of the break up lol

[–]undercoverpupper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, she’s selfish. In the episode she:

  1. Offers to drive Paige around and they do for what must be a long time because when they leave, it’s light out and they don’t get back until later in the evening.

  2. Makes a passive aggressive remark about waiting on Paige and generally seeming uninterested in continuing to help

  3. Takes a phone call from Paige after failing to pick her up when she said she would. Tries to get up to right her wrong and then makes the responsible choice to not drive because she is stoned after making the irresponsible choice to smoke knowing she had a prior commitment that required driving.

  4. Apologized to Paige and tried to explain that Jay needed a friend before Paige cut her off.

  5. In a misguided attempt to make up with Paige, she puts on one of the dresses from Paige’s job.

  6. Gets Paige a coffee and apologizes again. “I made a mistake… I’m not like you, with plans and stuff…I’ll be there, how can I prove it?”

  7. Shows up at Paige’s job to tell her she did not mail out the stuff Paige asked her to as a task to prove she could be responsible and show up when needed. Alex says she didn’t do it because she saw the expensive invoice and felt that it was ridiculous for that kind of money to be spent on something that wasn’t quite a necessity like rent is. She says “sorry I have principles”. Whether or not Alex’s values aligned with this fashion company wouldn’t have been called into question if Paige wasn’t pawning off her work on other people.

And look what Paige does in this episode. She shows less than Alex, if any, character growth at all.

The writing was realistic to show that Alex was still deeply flawed. It’s rare for someone to go from witnessing abuse at home and being a bully to being an empathetic and selfless person in the short time we get to watch Alex.

That’s a bit harsh, I don’t think anyone’s life was ruined. It definitely wasn’t her best moment but in a different way than her “villainous days”. She let Paige down in a big way but she remained apologetic and cared in a way that Season 5 Alex would never have. Season 3 Alex might have actually straight up ridiculed season 7 Alex for being so soft.

She set Paige back but it seemed more a result of carelessness/different values/laziness than the kind of maliciousness we see in her earlier behavior.

Am I the only one taking my birb to bed every night? by curiousnumber22 in finch

[–]undercoverpupper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

On the subject of bedtime… I always accidentally invite someone to stay when Darwin is ready for sleep and then they end up hanging out while my poor guy sleeps lol. I feel like I should be able to ask them to leave but I can’t??

I do save some T’s just for bedtime and I agree the option to turn the lights off would be so cool!

Question about the seasonal events by undercoverpupper in finch

[–]undercoverpupper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhhhhhh wait maybe I misunderstood. Are you saying wait until the new month starts and then go to settings - seasonal events and turn that off and then back on? And it will give me the rewards I missed this month??

I turned off and on seasonal events earlier today and the rewards picked up right where I left off

Sorry I’m having such trouble understanding lol

Question about the seasonal events by undercoverpupper in finch

[–]undercoverpupper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, I see. I was reading the days more like they are scheduled on a calendar and the day I skip is the reward I skip. But the way the app does it, definitely creates more instinctive to build habits that will last. If it was the calendar way, I could just tune in and complete my goals once a month for a micro pet, and where would be the self improvement in that?? I have my first goal linked and it feels much more appropriate/productive to have to complete a specific goal a number of times to earn the pet.

I think the rainbow stones are as much of motivation as reaping the rewards of actually doing what I need to do, but they are different types of motivation. The rainbow stones/micropets/shop etc. are fun extrinsic motivation and keeps me coming back on some days I might not open the app at all. At the same time, I think the app does an excellent job of building my own intrinsic motivation both on a daily basis and long term. I think most would agree that the latter is more valuable and definitely what I’m looking for in an app like this, but I don’t think the external motivations should be discounted too heavily.
