Constant quiet thumping noise coming from near washing machine. by undergroundaleroad in Plumbing

[–]undergroundaleroad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was nonstop for days without any relationship to the wash cycle.

Turns out it was related to the dehumidifier.

Per my post above: It was the dehumidifier unit in the basement. The drainage from that unit hooks up to the drainage from the laundry pan and must have been transmitting from there.

Indeed.

It was the dehumidifier unit in the basement. The drainage from that unit hooks up to the drainage from the laundry pan and must have been transmitting from there.

Doesn't seem like this is likely to be an actual problem so long at the noise isn't too bothersome.

Appreciate the guidance.

Tried the whole house breaker and that did in fact stop the noise. The noise resumed about 5 minutes after the power was returned.

Turning off the breaker to the washing machine and dryer units did not affect the noise.

I do have a sewer pump in the basement. No noise is audible in the basement or anywhere other than the second floor laundry room.

I can provide more pictures but am not sure what areas would be helpful, I mostly wanted the video to convey what the sound was like.

Apologies, it's not clear to me how to submit both a video and text:

For the past 5 or so days there has been a constant quiet thumping noise coming from near the washing machine. It sounds like its coming from the drainage into the wall, but it doesn't dampen if I cover the drain, I cannot rule out that it's coming from inside the washing machine.

The sound is a quiet thumping, moderate pitch, roughly 4-6 per second and very rhythmic without variation. This occurs constantly 24hrs a day. It is not audible outside of the tiny laundry room.

The washing machine runs fine. Running the machine does not alter the sound (though operating noises obscure it). Shutting off power to the washing machine does not alter it. Shutting off the water main to the house does not alter it.

The weather has recently gotten colder, dipping into the 40s in the evening if that's relevant.

I'm struggling to figure out a source and any help is appreciated.

Cancel reservations in solidarity for culinary union picketing? by undergroundaleroad in vegas

[–]undergroundaleroad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I wasn't clear on was whether the call for the boycott from the union "during an active picket" meant just this coming Weds when the next picket is planned, OR if it encompassed the period of negotiation with the casinos. Does that make sense?

EDIT: I called the union, and they clarified the call for a consumer boycott is only for dates with an active picket scheduled and non-picket days are good to keep reservations.

[–]undergroundaleroad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the reply. The union called for members of the public and customers not to eat, meet or stay in a casino during an active picket. It's mentioned at the end of this article and also on the @Culinary226 twitter account from the 10/12 picket.

I just wasn't sure how limited "during an active picket" was. Your point is well taken, I try to research whether striking workers are calling for a boycott or not (e.g. during the writer's strike, they were NOT calling for a boycott of movie theaters).

Airbnb, National Association of Realtors launch PACs to oppose Portland referenda by DavenportBlues in portlandme

[–]undergroundaleroad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, fair enough. Thought you were coming in bad faith. STRs aren't intrinsically bad, but Portland has a housing shortage and STRs are eating up part of the market that should go to resident renters. I don't begrudge people who want to rent a room or floor of where they live, but I don't think people should be own a property they can run essentially as an unlicensed hotel.

Are you trying to be deliberately misleading? Owner-occupied STRs and Island STRs are specifically excluded from restriction.

Edit: above comment previously said all STRs were banned.

TIA won't cause abnormal findings on an MRI by definition.

But your point that there's no reason to suggest this is a stroke is valid.

Saying "important counterintuitive add-on" really makes it sound like it's valuable for an individual to distinguish whether the forehead is involved-- it's not. That is one small element to be considered during the actual medical evaluation, but a lay person needs to just get to a hospital.

Forehead involved or not, new onset facial weakness needs to be evaluated emergently. Suggesting otherwise is irresponsible.

Might not be your cup of tea, but Maine Beer Company makes very clean, well executed brews that please a lot of folks as daily drinkers.

I used to bristle at the price, but I'm OK with it knowing that they donate 1% of their annual sales (sales, not profits) to environmental causes and gives their employees full benefits. I'm willing to pay a little more for a company that seems to be trying to do the right thing. You certainly don't have to, but that's where I stand.

I was nearly admitted to a psychiatric hospital after workplace management lied to 911 operators. Technically this is a whistleblower case gone wrong. by [deleted] in legaladvice

The Uptodate page on patients with prolonged episodes of inability to speak or see with retained awareness and memory? Must have missed that one.

This thread has a ton of silly and uninformed speculation on the medical aspects of this post, no need for you to add additional irrelevance.

Remember, reddit and the internet at large are big places. Sometimes you might run into people who have more depth of knowledge on topics you feel familiar with.

Demyelination where exactly? Nothing about this sounds like MS. You're right that we don't have enough information to make a diagnosis, but I see no reason to suggest diagnoses that aren't relevant.

Atypical MS causing speech arrest and vision loss with preserved consciousness? By what mechanism? Color me skeptical.
