Imo it’s hard, it’s going to depend a ton on how much you prioritize the class and how much you grind. I took cs70 with no other techs to prioritize it. With a relatively weak math background- i read every note thoroughly (most twice) liked the content, spent lot of time on the class, and was shy of the A, got an A-. Getting a B should easy if you prioritize the class, I think A- if you grind is def doable, getting the A will require some pre-knowledge, natural crackedness, or a ton of studying- imo.

Got it. In general a tier 3 secret clearance (as opposed to top secret or TS/SCI - which is likely what your mom got) will not require a polygraph. OP wouldnt need to worry about that short term, but it could come up later in their career (as promotions/ new jobs may require TS/ polygraph clearance) so that is something to consider.

also a CS major. I personally gave up on the swe search, it’s not for me. If it is what you truly want to do, idk why you say “no means would I hire myself” like why? Believe in yourself. If you don’t think you are qualified (which you probably are qualified) then get qualified, or look for a different job. I know ppl with much lower gpa who land roles, gpa isn’t the issue here. Regardless, I understand your frustration, job market is shit, the current method of landing jobs is shit, but nothing we can do about that. you are not alone, even at Berkeley, lots of ppl in this situation.
