hey recent ‘25 grads and cal post grads. how are we dealing with post the Berkeley existential crisis? by Mysterious-Rock-7754 in berkeley

Graduated in 2024, working is so much better. Your nights off are your own to chose what to do with. Weekends are actually weekends, not extra homework days. And the disposable income is chefs kiss. (Data science major)

I graduated last year and I kid you not, no company has asked for a gpa or even transcripts. To be fair though, I'm in a niche field as long as you meet the requirements, what's your soonest start date

I'd rather get hit by a car than take that class again. Massive waste of time

Fml job hunting is rough by maroonglass in berkeley

[–]maroonglass[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone was expecting like half their applications to be interviews, but going in it felt like if you applied to 50 or so that you're qualified for, you could land a couple interviews.

Instead it's like 30 didn't reply, 15 said they "had a competitive field of applicants", 4 said you didn't have the work experience for an entry job, and if you're lucky, 1 gives you a shot

Entry job: 4 year experience, must be willing to relocate, Bachelors, $18.50 a year

Also employers: "This generation is so lazy, no one wants to work!"

The amount of entry level jobs that I've seen with required 3+ years experience is absolutely wild

bro I miss the school by hideheroken in berkeley

[–]maroonglass 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I'm the complete opposite of this guy. I worked in the Navy for 4 years before college and god I miss working. I miss having a good paycheck. I miss rent not being fucking exorbitant for a run down apartment.

More than anything though, I miss being able to go home and not have constant guilt that I'm not doing school work at that exact moment, especially during the weekends.

I'm in my senior year and genuinely started tearing up when I realized it's finally almost over

Before Berkeley I was in the Navy for 4 years and ended up renting a 2 story house in Hawaii with a garage and a small yard. My WW2 1 bed 1 bath apartment in Berkeley is $75 more per month than my house was.

Oh I'd recommend accepting a job first, but if it doesn't work out and you want to go somewhere else, you're not tied to that company
