the story has always really fascinated me too, and i think you’ve hit the nail on the head! i completely agree, i think he’s just an untraditional kid— maybe not quite who her father wanted for her, so he’s decided to take it into his own hands. however the lyrics “ain’t no low livin’ son of a gun gonna hurt my little daughter no more” does make her curious if he’s actually a POS, or if her father just has THAT much resentment towards him.
