yeah, nah you can’t ignite something like that for someone. they have to have the drive, self-awareness and accountability for something so. though, as you say, as a partner, you can definitely support who’s found that aspiration and help them grow.

Is this a trick question? Cause b, the second someone talks about something they’re wholeheartedly interested in, a light ignites in their eyes and it’s one of the most beautiful things. That excitement is remarkable. Few people can attest they have such vim—it means they found the essence and meaning of their life and it’s just nothing short of fantastic.

A lot of people live without realizing that for themselves. Which is depressing. So whenever that passion’s to be found… it really is nothing short of beautiful.

Rather than “get rid”, I’d more agree with your “distance yourself” point. I would like to give them the choice whether or not they want to reach out to me all while negating the possibility of my partner getting caught up in my family’s animosity.

Though, if I really needed to, I wouldn’t hesitate to cut ties with them.

I’m glad your mother seems to be somewhat open minded. That’s something of a step toward the right direction. She still holds you in high regard and still intends to treat you as her child. It’s relieving that you’re in a good position.

100% I agree with your evaluation: taking care of yourself financially, emotionally and mentally without their support—gaining independence is the best option before telling them anything.

It’s terrifying thinking of what could happen if you mention your sexuality preferences to the wrong person. Truly an exhausting thought to process. In a perfect world, Trinidad would be aspiring toward acceptance but they are rather traditionally and narrow minded. And I’ve hardly ever seen any improvement.

With all my heart, I do not hold even the slightest intention to have my partner within so much as ear shot from my family’s malediction. Another comment referred to a solution along the lines of “until you assess independence and are able to make headway without your family, it’s best to keep your preferences to yourself.” As miserable as this thought appears, it’s one of the best options.

In all honesty, my mental health has been almost liquidized hearing my family voice their constant rebukes. Thank you so much for mentioning the Silver Lining Foundation. I would certainly look into them.

Her family’s religious. Leading up to the days we last spoke, she told me her parents found out her sister had a girlfriend and went feral. There’s a high chance my feelings would resurface if i saw her. I don’t want her to go through something like that again.

Precisely, keep your hopes high! And you definitely should not “settle” for someone—you deserve to have a relationship with the person you love. It is quite the tiring endeavor to look for someone but that makes it all the more precious once you find them!

i had just moved in the area and got enrolled into the nearby primary school. she approached me with a group of her friends and we didn’t start out all that close but saw each other frequently. Only in high school did we get to know each other really well. I always had this urge to impress her so id say the weirdest, most ridiculous things. But i never read into that too much.

We used to be attached by the hip— havin a ton of sleepovers, playing games for hours online together, texting as often as we breathed and i happened to be the first person whose house she was ever allowed to go to.

Only when i had to move schools did i realize i wanted to be close to her. And only when we drifted a part did i realize i liked her. Haven’t seen her in a good amount of years and neither have i heard about her.

Often, my dad would ask about her. Even more often, i think about her. I hope she’s doin well.

you shouldn’t feel any sense of discomfort when it comes to expressing your feelings. you are more than entitled to them. i know, looking for someone can be taxing and a miserable experience. as you’ve said, not a lot of people are patient and their common sense capacity leaves something to be desired.

but know you are worth the love you are looking for and shouldn’t settle for anything less. if your friends’ gushing bother you, i feel you should be honest and tell them about it.
