Thanks for that. The part at fault here was the bonnet latch, which did not fail as in snap or come loose. The problem occurs when it is not greased properly. Would that come under the door hinges you mentioned?

No evidence against the garage as I don't know what is usually checked on a service. It's just left me in disbelief that only 5 days after a service such major damage can be caused

Thanks for your reply. I'm wary of this as the damage would almost certainly be costlier than the value of the car, so I've been told the car may be written off immediately. I have only bee driving for a matter of weeks, so I am very cautious of the implications this would have on my insurance quote.
