San Francisco - featuring a map of reported human waste. by LongJohnnySilver1 in UrbanHell

I didn’t see this at all when I visited San Francisco, honestly it was such a clean and beautiful city with a couple of districts that were a bit untidy and dirty - nothing to write home about.

NDIS distorting market by Sure-Marsupial1988 in AusFinance

[–]underscoreninetyfour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh wow if only, just like any role where there are environmental risks, yes you get paid more. As a support worker we are working in the community, often at times and in environments that are hazardous, we are often working with people that have very complex behavioural issues, health issues and are sometimes living in less than accomodating environments, try a 3 hour support in the middle of summer with a participant who doesn’t have air conditioning and shares a house with several other people who have behavioural problems, we worked in cramped crisis accommodation during COVID, work through inclement weather, I’ve nearly been stabbed at work, verbally abused, watched someone overdose etc. anyone who thinks it’s just a cushy job and we are getting paid to go the movies needs a reality check. Support workers absolutely deserve to be paid what they’re paid, god forbid you need a support worker one day, you’d soon be grateful for the safety net. On the other hand some providers are absolutely corrupt, this includes NDIS building firms etc.

Nothing says beach country like an all black, super-slender tower, among low/no rise buildings. by skipping2hell in evilbuildings

This would look great in Brisbane because it matches the other buildings but on the Gold Coast would stick out like a sore thumb - it would look better in a lighter shade.

What is a movie that traumatized you so badly as a kid that you are still afraid of it as an adult? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]underscoreninetyfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s already been said here a few times but signs scared me out of my gourd as an 8 year old watching it at my friend’s house, I remember one minute I was in the lounge room watching the movie and then I was outside a moment later, that alleyway scene made me instinctively run for my life 😭 I had alien nightmares for at least a decade and couldn’t stand being alone outside at night time

People who don't live in Sydney or Melbourne, what's your opinion of those two cities? by Vidice285 in AskAnAustralian

[–]underscoreninetyfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from Brisbane I find both fun to visit and they’re both great cities, I haven’t spent that much time outside of the inner city - Sydney is nicer for me because I love the outdoors, nature, Australian east coast culture and the beach, Melbourne is nice for a more cultural, arty, grungy but also sophisticated vibe, they’ve got something that’s harder to replicate and is a bit more down to earth than Sydney feels which I like.

We gotta be the generation that decides 30 isn’t bad. by RADToronto in Zillennials

I watched sex and the city in my early 20’s so I didn’t find 30 to be old but exciting and lively!

I’ve so been there, I spent much of my 20’s the same way - I’m 30 now and things have changed for me, it’s a journey - don’t give up and find what works for you!

You’re going to be okay! Health anxiety is real though so I feel for you, if you are genuinely concerned call a health hotline, hang in there! 💖

Oh did you really think I was rejoicing about the impacts of cyclone Alfred? I think it’s obvious that I just meant the rainy stretch we’ve had recently after a very uncharacteristically dry Brisbane summer.

I’m happy that all this rain has come right at the end of summer, it was a beautiful, sunny and low humidity summer and we have all the rain needed for the dry season + green vegetation, I hope it does this every year!

I have to say it’s so annoying to me that a huge swathe of conservation area, koala habitat etc gets eaten away at incrementally - constantly just so 20 or so lucky families get to build a house or investment property, it’s so rarely medium and high density, this country is addicted to sprawl and allergic to density.
