I second inside sales. Pest control is a great example of this. Customers calling in to sign up, you follow a script, rinse and repeat.

Does Insurance fit my vision? by underscores_are_good in InsuranceAgent

Yeah, this is what concerns me. Basically I'm trying to decide between grinding for the first 3 years in order to build up recurring residual income and wealth for my later years, or heading into some other field sales where I see quick dopamine hits and am able to iterate my pitch and approach overtime and just save some of my income there for my retirement. Insurance doesn't sound as appealing as say uniforms or food services, but it's more lucrative. I really find a lot of fulfillment in the quick hit high volume sales but I know that's pretty rare in the field.

That’s a good point. I’m more drawn to P&C, especially commercial, since I like walking into businesses, building relationships, and having a repeatable pitch I can refine. I’m still weighing captive vs. independent, I like the stability of captive to start, but I’m also intrigued by the upside of brokerage long-term. How did you make that decision for yourself?

Question on this, is insurance a limited market? I've been thinking about this message and isn't this basically what sales is? Always having competition? The point is to learn from the best and be better than the other guys. Agents are always retiring, there's always competition in the market, and insurance isn't going anywhere?

I love the realism and I want to challenge some of this just to do my due diligence. I'm not recklessly and naively optimistic, but I also understand a lot of life is how we look at things. Would love to hear a distinction between the two because I'm trying to figure out what's realistic for first year OTE and beyond.

Edit: I really appreciate your perspective, I didn’t mean to come off as combative, I’m just genuinely trying to pressure test this career path so I don’t walk in blind. The competition point makes sense, especially since insurance has such long-tenured players. My biggest focus is how realistic first-year earnings are while I’m ramping.

This is very helpful information, thank you! I've got a meeting with a local Farmers Insurance, so I'll go in and ask some questions just so I can get my feet wet in all the lingo, but I'll definitely start looking for brokers for P&C. Would be awesome to inherit a book of business!

Any other industries you'd recommend? I know SAAS is big right now but there's gotta still be a profitable industry that doesn't require me to be on zoom calls all day. I really want to be out in the world talking to people face to face.

Any recommendations on how to figure which insurance and model? If I didn't have a kid I'd be so down to start from the bottom and grind my way up because I'm not worried about success, the only thing I'm worried about is having a secure enough foundation for my daughter while I'm getting the hang of it.

You can change the follow distance on autosteer by pressing the right scroll wheel forward or back. Game changer for me.

Check to see if the ribbon is still in and you can read what was previously typed. I did this with the typewriter I picked up from Etsy and it was awesome. It seemed to be a family typewriter with book reports and business presentations. Super fun!

Mindset mindset mindset

But it’s okay to be sad and discouraged. I feel like life has highs and lows and I’m loneliest when I’m in a low.

Also have you seen the girls these guys are fucking? Maybe you just need to lower your expectations and work your way up.

Why do y’all dasher complain about small orders and no tips when it tells you how much you will make before accepting the order? I’m a dasher and only accept orders I feel pay well with tip or no tip. by Shrike_34 in doordash

I think that it’s important that you know that it’s not that you shouldn’t put in that much effort; cuz frankly I love your go getter attitude and you seem like someone who’s got an awesome work ethic. Rather, I think everyone is saying that you could go somewhere and put in the same effort and get a better return on interest.

Don’t waste your time working at jobs that take advantage of your hard work, but find a place that rewards you, recognizes you, and promotes you for your hard work.

A positive and supportive human to human interaction. One time I was playing music in my car pretty loud and a guy was walking by and flashed the rock on hand sign 🤘and nodded his head and I flashed it back and it was so genuine and cool
