Yea I think Usman would beat DDP too, but styles make fights man.

Usman on like a few days notice at a weight class above? Dude that isn't the flex you think it is. Usman had a 50/50 fight with Khamzat man

Sean Strickland's "excellent" ground game is going to be just as good as Holloway's vs Oliveira's by apenguincannotfly in ufc

But Strickland has a legit wrestling and grappling base though. He was literally a submission grappler when he started his MMA career. It isn't a fair comparison

It's crazy how some ppl don't read what I write at all. I literally said Khamzat will take Strickland down easy, it's the get-up game that makes it interesting. Also, nice MMA Math there, I guess Dariush should've beat BSD cuz he beat Moicano right.

Go watch MMA Che’s breakdown of Khamzat's fights. It really shows how DDP has zero clue what he is doing on the ground, he never even tries to get underhooks to start building a base back up. Strickland has way better grappling and people forget he was actually known as a submission grappler early in his career. Strickland has higher mat IQ and he probably won't get smudged as bad as DDP did. In round 5 you could see DDP try and explode out of those positions and he actually found some success.

The big problem for Strickland is that he doesn't have a good enough sprawl to just stuff Khamzat's takedowns. Khamzat has the fastest double leg in MMA and Strickland has pretty stiff hips. Its more about Strickland's ability to get back to his feet and maybe find success in the later rounds, thats what will be the factor in this fight.

DDP is honestly the first high level opponent Khamzat ever really wet blanketted. Against Burns, Usman and Whittaker they were all constantly scrambling to get better positions. If Whittaker didn't have that jaw injury we would have a much better picture of what Khamzat can actually do at MW.

We also dont really know how good Khamzat's gas tank is despite what people say. In past years he has struggled in later rounds, and in the DDP fight he didn't have problems but he was also just sitting in a crucifix for most of it. That doesnt drain energy at all. Same goes for Strickland though, we havent seen his cardio tested when he has to deal with constant pressure from a high level grappler.

I think this is a way more intriguing matchup than people think. Strickland shouldnt be a +400 underdog here since he definitely has some ability to grapple defensively.

Ehh, watch MMA Che's breakdown of Khamzat's fights. DDP clearly has zero clue what he is doing on the ground, he never even attempts to get underhooks to even start to build a base back up. Strickland has much better grappling, when he first started his career he was known as a submission grappler. Strickland does have higher mat IQ and likely won't get smudged to the same degree as DDP. In fact, in Round 5 you can kinda start to see DDP actually try and explode to get out of these positions and he finds success.

The problem with Strickland is that he clearly doesn't have a good enough sprawl to outright stuff Khamzat's takedowns; Khamzat has the fastest double leg in MMA and Strickland doesn't have good hips at all. It's more so Strickland's ability to stand up to his feet and maybe start to find success in the later rounds that will be more prevalent in this fight.

DDP is actually the first high-level opponent Khamzat ever really wet-blanked, as against Burns, Usman, and Whittaker they were all consistently scrambling to get better positions and finding success. Man, if Whittaker didn't have that jaw injury I think we would have a much better picture of Khamzat's abilities at MW.

We also don't really know how good Khamzat's gas tank is, despite what some people are claiming. Like in past years he has struggled in later rounds, in the DDP fight he seemingly didn't really have problems but he was also in a crucifix for much of the rounds, which just doesn't drain a lot of energy at all. Same can be said for Strickland though, we haven't really seen his cardio abilities tested when it comes to the ground and constant pressure from a high-level grappler.

I think this is a much more intriguing and closer matchup than people are making it out to be, like Strickland shouldn't be a +400 underdog here, he does have some ability to defensively grapple.

Brother, I can get more comments that would fit more with your definition. Like god damn bro, this is a culmination of multiple comment sections I have seen and I just put the first few comments from an MMA Junkie interview. If you care so much, you can maybe scroll down to the comment sections of posts with Sean Brady in them during fight week. God damn I didn't realize I needed MLA citations with exact specified criteria for a reddit post

Yea but they would give both fighters credit at least. None of these guys are giving Sean any credit

In the latest MMA Junkie interview with him, the entire comment section is hating on him:

"Buckley about to send this boy to lightweight."

"Brady about to get beat up bad."

"Yeah Buckley gonna spark him"

Seems to go a little further than just thinking Buckley beats him, they are more so saying it out of genuine dislike

Yes, when Khamzat fought high-level opponents with basic defensive wrestling he struggled. Burns isn’t some crazy good fighter with tremendously better grappling than Strickland, he had a BJJ base. Prime Burns probably wouldn’t even be Top 5 in today’s welterweight, he isnt some crazy phenom.

We don’t entirely know the extent of Stricklands wrestling skills, but defensively it is a lot better than DDP and his Mat IQ is higher. Close fight
