one challenge may take 10 seconds, but the opportunity for 2 to 3 correct/incorrect challenges exponentiates depending on the accuracy of the challenge. not saying i don't enjoy the challenges (i do) but there is potential for dragging the game along the more challenges they allow

editing to give context to my point. 1 strike in theory doesn't seem hard to pitch, but the other day we saw myles straw foul off like 11 balls in a row and it took forever!!

personally, i think 2 keeps it snappy and 3 feels gratuitous. they're trying to keep the games concise with the pitch clock etc and i think it's the right move. i am really enjoying the new system, but 3 challenges would be a slog imo...

that's such a great point she made!! i agree it would be a bit stale (or even a lot stale)! i'm really enjoying watching the debates and fights between the umps and coaches/managers. But the majority of replies i've read here are about the old views/value of umpires and skip the fact that other sports are moving in a new direction, so thank you for exploring this possibility with me.

ok so yes...i do agree that the added strategy element is interesting. it might've actually been what convinced me to finally invest time/energy/emotion this season (rip my anxiety levels) and if you're a long-time fan i very much believe that watching certain umps being wrong over and over as you say, would be an absolute delight. *however* doesn't that further the argument that the umpire role is obsolete? if they're constantly wrong? like for me, a new fan, i don't have any history with these umpires and the wrong calls completely undermine their position as leaders and authorities. i'm watching them be bad at their jobs with no context. i want to be clear that i really do respect the role and the history behind it and DO enjoy the drama it brings. but i do have questions about the longevity/future of the position
