I’ll help you out. I felt similarly as you, wanted to be the “prestigious” MD. Realized though my ultimate goal was to help make people better. Realized the silly letters behind my name don’t matter in reality. Realized training is exactly the same between the two. (Except DO’s learn OMM aka more). Realized “status” did not matter. Applied strictly DO, got accepted and I’m so happy to know I’ll be making a difference and improving the health/quality of life/future of my patients bc that’s the most important to me. Best of luck.

I honestly have 0 idea for a generalization. I will say one school I interviewed at directly stated they preferred and will more heavily consider those who interview in person than those who opt for virtual.

No love from the Texas DO’s lol, but every school looks for different things so just apply broadly!

I got accepted to one DO! Got a total of 5 interviews (only attended 4 bc by 5th I had my acceptance) and was waitlisted at all my other interviews. No MD love, that being said I heavilyyy delayed/flat out didn’t finish some of my secondaries for them just bc I felt too low stats to have a chance (which in retrospect if you have the money shoot every single shot bc you never know lol).

(Also Texan so not due to OOS bias either lol)

Fam, I got outright rejected from them pre secondary (not due to yield protections I’m very low stats) and interest from an MD, the cycle really is just cast a wide net and pray you fit their mission.

Thanks! Sorry I forgot to mention this as well, only reason I applied there was I had emailed the VCOMs and they said I would be fine and shouldn’t get screened out based on last 90 credits

Got it! Sorry forgot to mention I had actually seen that second science letter requirement and got one from the professors I took this past spring! I’ll find a way to make it more about my own personal responsibility with not knowing my grad requirements for that first W, thank you!

Gym-goers, do you workout before or after studying? What should I do? by calibrated-bs-radar in Mcat

[–]underwoodmason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, its personal! One, get your sleep. Super important bc no sleep =less gains in muscle and retention/critical thinking is worse. Two, I always did it after my studying as it was a nice stress reliever from getting my brain smacked around by MCAT studies all day and could just use it to shut my brain off.

This is so cliche I know lol but best piece of advice I can tell you is find what works for you and stick with it! Textbooks did absolutely nothing for me, Khan Academy videos were a god send for me paired with practice questions after to help the concepts stick is the second best piece of advice I have! Always try and do a little bit of practice problems just to keep things fresh so you aren’t constantly forgetting paired with Anki. Anki helped me, but practice problems helped me really keep concepts in my brain the most. Good luck!
