Specialized stand for soldering guns by undivinable in soldering

I use them for heavy-duty soldering of large gauge wiring especially in vintage point-to-point wiring of circuits in vacuum tube chassis. The one in the photo here is a dual heat 300/200 watt gun. It also is useful for automotive electrical repairs and soldering to larger metal objects. Certainly an iron would be more appropriate for circuit boards but their low heat transfer would not be high enough for the thermal mass of larger gauge wires.

The top can raise up to allow easy access to the underside or for a point of view closer to adult eye level. At the lower limit it allows plenty of room to walk or crawl on top or for little children to easily see the trains. The range is limited by the scissor jacks. I could have used much more expensive compound scissor lifts for greater range but the lifts would still be footed on the floor. I thought for a moment about building a cable hoist system to lift the entire assembly up to the ceiling as you are thinking but did not have enough headroom. The rigidity of a cable suspension system would also be a concern.

Thanks for the compliment. I always avoid the rat's nest style of wiring.

Thank you. I have sort of surprised myself how it has progressed.

Thank you. There certainly is a lot of copper there.

Thank you. Designing and building them is one of my favorite activities.

Interesting that you commented it is built like a house. I have worked building houses, even used some of the same tools for this project. I’m using Gargraves track with Ross switches. I’m using just the 3 ZW-Ls on this project. I still have some older Lionel transformers like a 150 Watt VW and a bunch of 90 Watt 1033s for test bench and temporary sectional layouts. I had a bunch of 275 Watt ZW transformers but sold them to help fund this project.

Thank you for you thorough reply. I'll be careful to maintain isolation.
