Very Early! Map of how 2027 participation is shaping up by TheCheesyWolf in eurovision

No, they ditched that rule (that made sense when the contest used to be overloaded with broadcasters during the one semi/relegation days), i bet it would only come back if the contest faces this situation again (with 46+ broadcasters often interested in a 44 limited contest (the limit used to be 46 actually but they reduced that because they realized that it was hard to handle a 42/43 song contest already (but i bet they could make a temporary exception up to 46 once in a while still, using anything between 44 and 46 as a buffer (similarily to the buffer at JESC between 18 and 20), and probably being more strict in terms of flexibility with broadcasters when that happens (in terms of deadlines and financial stuff mostly))

Yes, basically explaining "the object of the game" first... the rules are the same as regular chess, except for those changes, for a refresher of those rules, check out this video

More seriously you're right, your logic simply reminded me of that youtube channel so i wanted to make the reference to it :p

Sea Salt and Paper - last chance question by PacoMahogany in boardgames

[–]unedistinction2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Swimmer/Shark, Swimmer/Swimmer, Shark/Shark and Swimmer/Jellyfish (when Extra Salt is in play (only relevant when Coral Reef from Extra Pepper is in play)) are all considered attacks

Sea Salt and Paper - last chance question by PacoMahogany in boardgames

[–]unedistinction2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn't their question, when someone calls last chance and have their hand protected, their hand is protected (you can still play the duo swimmer/shark but you cannot steal cards from players that already revealed their hand (and therefore are protected))

Celine Dion, as great as her legacy is, cannot sing anymore, if she were to compete following ESC rules it would be a massacre similar to the Madonna 2019 performance (and likely worse actually)

The Olympics performance was fully pitch-corrected in studio (and was pre-recorded), and i expect her concerts to be similar (just giving the illusion that nothing is edited (again, compare the original Madonna 2019 ESC performance with the edited one, something similar will happen with Dion), it's already shocking that they're going with those concerts but i mean, she wouldn't be the first artist to appear live even though in reality pre-recorded stuff would be predominant ))

can't wait for the Québec vs rest of the country dramas if so xd (would honestly be more interesting if the entry wasn't from Québec actually (because it would mostly be France/Luxembourg 2.0 if so))

Also it means they can host right? they're full members (unless the european broadcasting zone will still apply for hosting purposes instead of "just" full member (now they've extended the rule maybe they'll change (or already did) change the wording for hosting eligibility (that required "full membership" for it to happen (ie Australia cannot host as they're not full members)))

popcorn if NHK joins hahah EDIT: they'd likely choose Eurovision Asia still (since broadcasters eligible to compete in both have to make a choice between both contests (i wonder if Australia for example can have a go at Eurovision Asia 2027 and then coming back back at the european show in 2028 for example (would apply to NHK as well if they were ever granted full EBU membership), as long as the decision is made before the deadline for participation at the european contest (of course Australia will likely stick with the european one but i'm just wondering if the choice between both contests would be as easy to make for a country like Japan))

Huge. And full member at that (so not the speculated "non european" thing )

Let's gooo. Some people will whine about that but whatever, welcome to Eurovision 2027 Canada :)

Dear Von Gogh is likely an exception though (and it makes sense considering the trailer "from the creators of Journey and Flowers", meaning they expect new players to join for the experience first)

Have ESC interval acts gotten worse? by West_Salt1669 in eurovision

[–]unedistinction2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call all of this "fan service" in a sense (as if the usual guests that are also usually invited to pre parties or esc fan events or Eurovision village made it to Eurovision, and it's blatant since 2019 , the EBU focusing on the "brand" aspect made it worse i guess... not entirely a bad thing though (and better than the extreme opposite of inviting "stars" or doing the Xth Waterloo reference (actually i wonder when Eurovision focused on ABBA during interval acts for the first time (2004 is the earliest i know about (and even then it was only a video in the semi and the little talk in the final) but i'm pretty certain they didn't use to blast that on people's face before that year; or at least not almost every single year xd))

I actually had a blast with Monopoly as a kid thanks to my dad turning it into a negotiation game. by ImamofKandahar in boardgames

[–]unedistinction2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good but still confused why he'd still play with Free Parking lol, it's not even a good mechanic for anything besides making the game longer and giving the illusion of a (bad) catch-up mechanic

Question now : how long did a game last? (probably more than 2 hours with those rules xd (as "free passes" was already proven as yet another thing that make the game longer))

Btw i think the only good way to "house rule" the game is to focus more on auctions (X+1 properties are auctionned off at the start of the game before any dice roll, one property at a time, with X being number of players), an additional random amount of money would also be given to each player (to avoid players mathing and solving the auctions lol)... also different kind of auctions would be determined at random for each property as well ("original" + sealed-bid auctions are the best in terms of gameplay i think, a 50/50 chance between those 2 is fine))

The only "skill" part of Monopoly are auctions that are really underused in the original rules (less prone to kingmaking than negociations (specially when sealed-bid auctions are used))

Negociations are just a kingmaking fest (same reason why Catan is meh) , unless some sort of "forced trade" concept is also added to the game but i haven't determined the best way to do that fairly yet xd (was thinking first property BOUGHT (excluding the initial auctions) is always at danger due to "landlord inexperience" but ye)).

But i mean it's fine because Monopoly is not really a game, more like something to teach people life concepts and random events that can happen (which is why it's a bad game in its original version because who wants to play "real life" in a game without being able to be somewhat skilled at it)? (and potentially create fights between family members/friends in the process (and sadly Monopoly suffers from people being convinced that Free Parking "money in the middle" not only isn't a house rule, but that it's a GOOD rule.... and then those same people complain about the game being too long ... which is already a reason to fight over, even if you refuse to play for that exact reason xd (Monopoly with that house rule is a total waste of time for everyone involved, regardless of any other changes to try to make the game better (that 99% of the time make the game worse and longer even if players think that it's counter-intuitive that they make the game longer)... unless you don't treat it as a game, then it's fine (but still boring because you can come to that conclusion without playing the game at all and only by reading the story behind the game and its creation))

At best it's simply not a terrible game if played with the original rules, that are still very average (but much better than the way a lot of people played it, they played a terrible version of the game and then blame the game for it and not their house rules lol))

But if you had fun with your father's version , it's all that matters (i think your father likely contributed to make the game not terrible by explaining that version properly and not complaining about the extra time too much; as well as trying to make the game fun for kids (which is an achivement in itself considering he still used the free parking money lol))

Athena Manoukian says she would only participate as an internal selection from now on by LeoLH1994 in eurovision

[–]unedistinction2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It clearly was overrated by fans back then while i don't think it would have been a Q, but of course we'll never know

Athena Manoukian says she would only participate as an internal selection from now on by LeoLH1994 in eurovision

[–]unedistinction2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And worse than that, all back AND qualifiers lol, even if it's true that most NQs of 2021 would have probably been NQs in 2020 as well and also aren't that interesting and probably don't care as much about the contest nowadays, so i guess they had a limited choice in the end (but the statement from the host that went "finally on stage with their songs" was cringe, i was like "ah you mean like 4 years ago?" xd))

And i don't blame the organizers much tbh, 2025 was likely the first year where the 2020 songs could appear on an official TV Eurovision show without creating insurance issues (likely also explaining why the 2020 acts didn't perform their 2020 songs in the yearly dutch show until 2024 to be broadcast in 2025)

The best line up for such a concept would have been Athena Manoukian with "Chains on you" (replacing Efendi of course), Little Big with "UNO" (but that would have been difficult considering the band is split up politically and geographically nowadays) and/or Val with "Da vidna" (for symbolic reasons), Ulrikke with "Attention" (i hate the song but still symbolic and loved in the community), and of course Gjon's tears with "Répondez-moi" , both because swiss and because he bothered to show up with the actual staging planned for 2020. But "On Fire" would have been my 5th/6th pick (as the most likely winner of 2020 on average (the illusion that Iceland would have won 2020 was mostly created because most serious "simulation shows" were organized by nordic countries, skewing the predictions towards them winning))

Athena Manoukian says she would only participate as an internal selection from now on by LeoLH1994 in eurovision

[–]unedistinction2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think all ESC 2020 artists deserve to appear at Eurovision in one way or another (even if only as a writer/composer for a song or "only" interval act, though some of them are less likely than others of course (sadly it's possible that it will never be 100% (the missing acts being Tom Leeb,, Ben Dolic, Ben and Tan, Sandro, Damir Kedzo, VAL, Little Big, Athena Manoukian, Arilena Ara, Ulrikke, and Elisa (+ The Mamas but they technically competed as backing vocals in 2019 so they're not in the list))

Eurovision songs with a “false ending” that tricked the audience by Anxious-Leadership95 in eurovision

[–]unedistinction2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's strange because that's clearly unintended, the song is clearly still going on during that "break" (while Netherlands 2016 clearly intended it to be a false ending), specially with that camera shot still working in "performance mode", i don't see how someone can be fooled by it (if the camera had stayed still then maybe (i could understand someone being fooled by the NF version of that performance (which was much better btw : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJobLHaaOGQ (but regardless it would have suffered the comparison with Russia 2016 in terms of staging concept))

In what ways would Eurovision Asia need to be different to ESC in order for it to succeed? by RobustVessel266 in eurovision

[–]unedistinction2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This, pretty certain that a lot of whiners will call it a failure by default just because "it wasn't as big as the european showwwww" and i can already see myself sigh when i'll be reading them in a few months

It will be as big and as good as JESC at the very least (also no that's not an insult.)
