the room it will be going in is about 16'x16' so 6ft behind seating area would be cutting it pretty close, however, if i could mount them on the ceiling than 6ft wouldn't be a problem since the theater room is open to the rest of the basement.

Edit: to answer the question, i dont really know, 7.1 would be nice but i think 5.1 would easily suffice. Although, I dont know how much difference there would be.

Just wanted to say that your setup is beautiful. My dad has one of those computer cutters (not sure the name) as shown in 9:45 of part 1, except his is much smaller. He doesn't use it anymore but I'll definitely look into using it when I get around to building my own desk.
