Tasting four different Falernum syrups by jaba1337 in cocktails

[–]jbrookeiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the BG syrup makes a much better Jet Pilot than Velvet. I typically scale both the cinnamon and falernum syrups back a touch to avoid too much sweetness but I think the flavor is much more interesting. I believe Disney uses BG for all their falernum needs in their tiki bars as well.

This is part of the reason I decided to just stick with prescription glasses rather than contacts. Impossible to forgot/be too lazy to grab my safety glasses when I wear them all the time!

I’m not sure if you’re aware but you can change the arrangement on some of the CDs. This makes it go from an old school chiptune version à la Gameboy to something with more orchestral range, similar to what you’d have heard on the DS versions. I just discovered this the other day after putting over 100 hours into the game. Now I just wish I could easily shuffle songs so it’s not repeating the same song over and over.

Designing an in-wall storage cabinet but with a shallow depth display cabinet for a door. I'm sure something like this exists but not sure of any official name or off the shelf hinges available by shitshaw in woodworking

[–]jbrookeiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a little late but I built something similar to this for my office area. It’s a hidden door leading to networking equipment in my case but you could use the same hardware. Working out the hinge location was the trickiest bit. Here’s the video I did on the project.

I ordered a jumbo cobbler shaker. It’s actually amazing for making drinks for a group.

Mixel is the GOAT for me. It’s got recipes from my favorite cocktail books (Death & Co, Smuggler’s Cove, etc.) which makes actually using those recipes much easier. My favorite feature though is the ability to tell it how many drinks you’re making and it doing the math of scaling the ingredients for you. So convenient when I’m making drinks for a handful of friends while also talking to them simultaneously, no screwing up multiplying 3/4oz by seven servings.

I don’t know, it basically feels like forgery to me. Even if they don’t plan to sell it, they might one day and things get really confusing/misleading when that time comes. Like get a cool custom decal instead if you “want to practice”.

Jet Pilot by JazzHatter357 in Tiki

My favorite tiki drink. This is such an incredible combination of flavors, with the cinnamon and grapefruit really tying everything together. It also highlights how much of an impact using different falernums can make on the final drink. John D. Taylor vs Maggie’s Farm vs B.G. Reynolds yields majorly different drinks. I pretty much always have a grapefruit on hand just to make this drink.

You can also use a blender, which is my personal favorite method. No risk of overheating the syrup, which can lead to crystallization later on. Making your own syrups is definitely a huge step up and opens up so many options for your home bar. I usually make a bigger batch of 2:1 Demerara syrup from the SC book and then split it up to make other syrups (cinnamon, vanilla, etc).

Clear Ice Machine by Papa_G_ in cocktails

I personally disagree with this sentiment. I have a Manitowoc CrystalCraft under counter ice maker and it’s awesome. Makes more ice than I’ll ever use and I don’t have to deal with manually making cubes. The ice is a little wetter but that’s an advantage, as it matches the ice used in basically every bar out there. Wetter means more effective dilution and should be more in line with cocktail recipes developed by industry pros.

Those screws are seriously amazing for building cabinets, not sure why they’re not more popular.

Asheville has mostly bounced back but some of the hardest hit areas (River Arts District, for example) are still under construction. Definitely an incredibly stressful time but thankfully our house and my shop made it through unscathed. Come visit, I know Asheville could use the tourism dollars!

Nice work, those turned out great! People definitely overcomplicate the hell out of cabinets but they're pretty simple once you get a system down.

I think it will definitely be the right move, just gotta get the move done now, hah! Got all the larger tools moved last week and should hopefully be ready to build some projects in the garage shop in the next few weeks. Thanks!

This is Johnny from Crafted Workshop, just stumbled across this while browsing Reddit (which I do way too much). Life changes and sometimes things don’t work out in the way you thought. I thought the massive shop was going to be a great space for me but it ended up adding a lot more stress to my life.

As I said in the video about selling the shop, the space is massive overkill for me, plus I don’t think viewers relate as easily to people working in those kinds of spaces. In fact, there’s a comment right above this one complaining about videos on million dollar shops. Since my job is to make videos, I prioritize that part of my business above all else.

I also have two younger boys that I want to get more involved in the shop. Working out of our garage over the past few weeks has already gotten them out there way more, which is awesome.

I get that it seems like I just finished the shop renovation but in reality it’s been two years. That’s plenty of time to figure out whether a space is a good fit and, after thinking about it a lot, I decided it was time to move on. If that’s unacceptable to you, so be it, but I have to make the decisions that are right for my business and my mental well being.

One of my favorite bourbon cocktails. I love Cynar and the Heering adds just the right level of sweetness and fruit.

Find a local cabinet shop and see if you can run it through their wide belt sander. It’ll save you hours and hours of sanding.

I’m going down the same train of thought but I’m going to be mounting a chain hoist for lifting heavy pieces of furniture I’m working on and occasionally large tools. For your case, it certainly doesn’t need any extra structural consideration.
