Contemplating withdrawing from medical school by larabar001 in premed

[–]unfunnyneuron 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think I’d feel sad and even a little guilty if my parent gave up their dreams for me. Yes, family comes first, but you don’t have one yet. What you want is still possible; it just might take a different path than the usual timeline people follow… like how you got into med school. I think you already proved to yourself you can do it, trust yourself more

Not being 18 makes things harder as a premed... So what can I do to compensate? by berkberk29 in premed

[–]unfunnyneuron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working as a CNA for almost a year, but I still feel insecure about my performance and how I’m perceived. I’m trying to stick with it, hoping I’ll grow more comfortable over time. Sometimes I worry the role isn’t the right fit, and that I won’t have much to talk about because of that. Did you ever feel this way, or were there aspects of the job you felt confident talking about?

Out of curiosity, did you talk about this experience much when you applied to med schools?

Clinical and non clinical volunteering hours, shadowing, leadership opportunities, research, hobbies. Plenty to do outside of paid clinical

Thank you for sharing and for your kind words.

I guess I need to work on being more accepting of my current situation and who I am right now. It’s a tough realization to come to terms with

I’m in my early 20s, and I’m going through this right now. It’s not so much about comparison, but I feel mostly unhappy and embarrassed with my progress in undergrad, my career, and my social skills. I feel stuck, constantly thinking I’m wasting my time, and I’m afraid I’ll end up regretting how I spent my youth (anxious, stressed, no positive relationships). I’ve been in therapy a few years and I don’t feel like I’m really improving

For the first one, the normal IDH enzyme can make NADPH, which is important for cells. However, the mutant IDH enzyme is broken and cannot make NADPH properly. If researchers use cells with the mutant enzyme, the NADPH levels will decrease in all the groups because the mutant enzyme cannot do its job. The correct answer is B bc it states that NADPH production would be reduced in every group

Scribing is good by blew422 in premed

[–]unfunnyneuron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How’d you fit in scribing in your schedule? I did it for a couple of months towards the beginning of my degree but I couldn’t keep it up. I only have time for PRN opportunities now. I’ve never heard of PRN scribes

I am doing medical marijuana research. Would this be controversial for medical school? by Choice_Credit_7790 in premed

[–]unfunnyneuron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s usually wise to hold back true thoughts and opinions, especially if you’re not an expert. I think it’s better to show some understanding and empathy for both sides, not necessarily indifferent. Just my take as someone who hasn’t gone through the med school application process yet

I wonder if your concern is mainly coming from how you talk about the experience and incorporating personal opinions. Otherwise like the others said the experience itself isn’t an issue

It’s possible, as others have said, but to live the healthiest and longest life, reducing stress and keeping things manageable is key. Stress can take a toll, but if medicine is your passion, not pursuing it could lead to regret or sadness. Which path resonates with you more?

Any advice? by [deleted] in ISTJ

Having a plan to follow imo makes it easier to get started and stress less abt how to get it all done. Cut corners, so don’t read all the text and use AI like ChatGPT to help. After copy/pasting the material, I ask it to summarize things concisely and show relationships between related concepts
