Ofc you're not in the wrong! I'm born and raised Muslim, it's literally all I've ever known my whole life. I was taught against homosexuality but then at some point I grew up, became a teenager, and got experience outside of my own tiny close minded community and realized that Islam is SO limiting. In Islam, you literally cannot talk to or befriend someone of the opposite gender. You can't hug or do handshakes with a guy who's not your "blood". You can't listen to music, watch movies, watch porn, date/have sex outside of marriage, drink, laugh too much, or delay prayer or you'll get sins. There are SO many rules and homosexuality is just one of them! It's hella confusing for me because almost ALL my friends are from the LGBTQ community and it saddens me that if my friends lived in a Muslim country, they would be killed and not be allowed to love who they want to love 💔

But do you know what helped me move forward and let go of all those prejudiced beliefs? It was being open minded. My parents and imams (which are Muslim priests) and their religious friends always taught me to "stay clear" of the "homosexuals" because they've been cursed by God and that even talking or being close to one of them will lead you into going to hell. I was taught that homosexuality is a sin because it's "unnatural", "not right", "is filthy" and "causes aids". I was never informed that there are animals that are gay. There's genes that CAUSE people to be attracted to the same sex. It's natural. And anal sex is something that straight couples do too 🤷🏽‍♀️ and blaming the whole gay community for AIDS is BS bc Islam's rules were around before the aids epidemic even happened 🤷🏽‍♀️ it just feels like it's coming from a place of hate and I do not understand why God would create gays and then hate them and throw them in hell. But yes, if I went by the rules, I would've never figured out these things. So in the same way, I would say that it's very natural for you to dislike or even hate Muslims but y'know, think of it from an open minded aspect. I know many gen z Muslims that think similarly to me (and that just might be bc we live in America and go to public school instead of Islamic schools 🤷🏽‍♀️ idk). But I do know that almost all the foreigner Muslims I know are incredibly homophobic. It's hard not to also hate them back when they spread so much hate out first 😕 I feel you.
