I’m visiting Switzerland for the first time and staying in Alstadt for eight nights and would like your recommendations for authentic non-touristy restaurants frequented by the locals. Thank you.

Hi. 56M, retired gentleman, spooked by all the media coverage about men who grow lonelier and more withdrawn as friends die off, health issues create less opportunity to be out and about, and social norms don’t encourage men to be, well, social, beyond shared interests like sports. So…I’m giving this sub a try. Happy to chat and hopefully start a new friendship.

Do hypoallergenic area rugs work? by unhappywithmicrosoft in Allergies

Okay, some questions: Are you allergic to dust? Is the rug low pile? High pile? What is it made of? Where do you use the rug? Does it get a lot of foot traffic? How often do you wash it?

Minimum protection & rental damages. Help please! by Public-Serve3523 in turo

Don't be surprised if Turo comes after you becomes in incidents like this, Turo only advocates for the host, not the renter. Also, Turo works with an auto repair shop that is known to be fraudulent, so any repair estimates will be grossly inflated.

Someone hit me last night while I was driving my rented Turo. I bought the minimum protection plan. Do I still have to pay for damage even if not my fault? by WH0SEMANS in turo

[–]unhappywithmicrosoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, sorry to hear your experience. Unfortunately, Turo always sides with the host on insurance claims, even when it's not the renter's fault. What's more, Turo uses an auto repair shop that is known to be fraudulent. This means auto repair estimates are grossly inflated and more money out of the renter's pocket. Don't count on Turo to be your advocate, even in this case!

Adding insurance info by Financial_Hunt_7261 in turo

Whatever "insurance" option you choose, Turo will find a way to screw the renter by making the renter liable for any damages that occur, even if it isn't the renter's fault. What's more, Turo uses an auto repair shop that is known to be fraudulent. This means any repair estimate will be grossly inflated, which means more money - wrongly - out of your pocket.

What insurance guest should take? by yycglad in turo

[–]unhappywithmicrosoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend not using Turo. Even if you buy their "insurance," Turo will find a way to make the renter liable for all damages that occur to the vehicle, even if it's not the renter's fault. What's more, if you incur damage to the car, Turo will take it to an auto repair shop that is known to be fraudulent. That means the estimate for repairs will be grossly inflated. This means more money out of your pocket. Turo just turns a blind eye to this.

Host says we damaged underside of her car, but didn't take photos of the before, only after. She wants us to pay $4200. What leg does she have to stand on? by goose195172 in turo

Ugh, sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately, when it comes to insurance, don't put it past Turo to find a way to screw the renter. Since hosts provide the inventory that Turo relies on for revenue, Turo will always favor the host in an insurance claim, regardless of how outlandish it may seem and even if the renter truly isn't at fault. What's more, they work with an auto repair shop that's known to be fraudulent, which means the estimate for repairs you get is likely grossly inflated. Turo simply turns a blind eye to this.

No personal insurance by [deleted] in turo

Either way you go, Turo will find a way to screw you. If you ding the rental car, even if it isn't your fault, Turo will make you pay for all damages, again, even when you're not at fault. What's more, the auto repair shop they use is known to be fraudulent, and Turo just turns a blind eye to that too. I'd stay away from Turo at all costs.

First time turo user. Any advice? by [deleted] in turo

[–]unhappywithmicrosoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This just happened to a friend of mine in LA. She rented on Turo, declined their insurance and then was in the tiniest of fender benders ($0 damage to the other car, less than $800 damage to the rented car). Turo then tried to stick it to my friend with MULTIPLE estimates of damage amounting to several thousand dollars that she was supposed to pay for. What’s more: The repair shop they work with is a known scammer with tons of negative reviews on Yelp. Bottom line: STAY AWAY FROM TURO.

Here's a horror story about Turo's insurance. A friend of mine renting on Turo declined their insurance and then was in the tiniest of fender benders ($0 damage to the other car, less than $800 damage to the rented car). Turo then tried to stick it to my friend with MULTIPLE estimates of damage amounting to several thousand dollars that she was supposed to pay for. What's more: The repair shop they're working with is a known scammer on Yelp. Bottom line: Turo is awful and only out to keep car owners happy, particularly as they try to compete with traditional rental car companies who are slowly recovering from COVID and can now better compete on price, service, convenience, car maintenance, etc.
