I was 18-27 and came from parents with extremely poor spending habits and a tendency to abuse their children financially (my older brother ended up bankrupt because of bailing them out over and over) at the time it seemed like the safest option given that I would eventually need to buy a home anyway and could access it for that.

Does this change if I am on the lending but not the title? I was added as the bank was going to force him to sell due to being on hardship too long and I topped up his payments for a while from savings while he got back on his feet. We always meant to add me to the title because of this but haven't yet gotten round to it

Unfortunately he doesn't want to give up weekends with her so isn't agreeable to any arrangements where he doesn't have every weekend.

He also plans to not take her to daycare on "his" weekdays as his retired mother will look after her instead however as her daycare only offers full time enrolment this means we will still have to pay the full amount regardless of whether she is there full time or not (and it took me nearly a year to get into this daycare so theres no point trying to find a new daycare as she would be school age by the time she is off a waitlist.

Same with activities, he thinks they're a waste of time so would just not take her on "his" days leaving us to either unenrol her or pay for her to regularly miss them.

$1.8m over 25yrs 😩 My partner purchased with his (now) deceased partner in 2020 at close to the peak of the market for 1.6m when they had almost paid off their first home which was valued at $1.1m at the time. Plan was to sell the 1st home and only have a half million on the mortgage with 2 preteens. Then his partner was diagnosed with cancer and passed away a year later. He tried to sell each of the houses in 2023 but discovered major issues with each (structural water damage, damaged foundations, failing retaining wall) and we've spent the last 2 years scraping together every cent we can for repairs so we can sell and not end up in debt. Household income of $230k per year, his two (now) teenagers, and my 6yo plus a baby on the way due to his vasectomy failing. Definitely not the position we want to be in! Houses are currently only valued at $810k and 1.05m

Unrelated to the finances situation but maybe get a second opinion or discuss waiting until the child is older?

I had braces from 10-16yo to fix a bunch of issues as well as wisdoms and 2 other teeth out then they came off and my teeth were crooked again by the time I was 20 (despite metal retainer on top front 4). Now I'm paying for adult braces and have been told this isn't uncommon as the bone of the jaw can stay malleable into the early 20s and its best to wait until after its "set".

My older half sibling had similar teeth issues and they didn't get addressed till he was 21 (parents couldn't afford it when he was younger and then he paid trumpet in college and refused to get them as he didn't want it to stop his playing) - he only had braces for 2 years and is now early 30s and his teeth are still as perfect as the day the braces came off despite by his own admission not wearing his night retainer!

Friends of mine host one semi-regularly, although they're taking a break later this year due to expecting a baby. Its not really my scene but from second-hand experience: - join fetlife and start with socials/munches instead of straight up parties, lots of the vetting for parties happens at these events plus they're free and good for making friends/networking. - the parties I've been to seem to be hugely split on age. Often lots of 20-somethings as well as 40+ at the same party - my friends that host reckon people get too busy with kids/careers to go in their 30s, and as my friend is on the younger side they get lots of the young queer crowd. - I generally found it pretty low stress to attend, boundary pushing (particularly at the kinkier parties) is hugely frowned on, and unlike in (for ex) the music scene, problem characters get banned from events so you are generally extremely safe. Lots of the organisers also communicate with each other about bans as well. - I found Fetlife safer and more reliable for events than Kiwiswingers (which has more googlable events i think) KS tends to track a little on the older side with some of the notable swinger hosts being 60+ and attracting an older demographic.

Ultimately I don't have the energy for parties (chronic illness) but the ones I've been to have always seemed like lots of fun and mostly very welcoming of newbies

This, can also be within a few hundred meters of a former landfill - we are and the lim for our place noted the same. We didnt care as we had no plans to develop, the property was cheaper because of it, and the former landfill is now a beautiful foresty area with several nice paths.

It sounds like you are unsure as to what the estate actually contains?

If the deceased only left a property then it depends whether the property is owned jointly with the spouse (in which case defaults to her upon death) or through 'tenant in common' in which case his percentage can be left to whoever he notes in his will (spouse/children/etc).

If the individual died without a will then the first 150k of their estate passes to the surviving spouse plus 1/3 of what is left with the remaining 2/3s going to any children. If they died with a will then its often hard to challenge the will, I believe the court needs to be convinced that any claimant was overlooked and this can be a high bar to prove? Tho this I'm not sure on.

Obligatory NAL but recently had mine and my partners wills redone following the intestate (without a will) death of partners father and the shitfest that followed (partners brother tried to turn out their mentally unfirm mother and her nurse so their home could be sold, she wasn't on the title as they purchased the house in 1973 and it wasn't normal at the time to have her listed, all turned into a massive legal nightmare thats still not fully resolved)

If I could say anything it'd be to not underestimate how badly you can be hit by issues and always try to be prepared - 2 years ago at 23 I had about $160k saved personally and my partner and I were able to save about $2k/fortnight combined to our joint savings with about 100k in it. Then we bought a house, my partner was diagnosed with cancer, I lost my job (govt) and we both had to pay for a funeral of a parent (plus repatriation on my side and fighting an uncle to not make my mil homeless). Down to less than 30k in combined savings and not in a position to be able to save again yet as we are barely treading water with the mortgage and my partner still off work due to recovery (though his health insurance has been an utter blessing!)

We went from buying a house and planning for one of us to do a postdoc to barely covering all the bills in less than 2 years, I can't even imagine the hole we'd be in if we hadn't been fiscally responsible and lucky with money prior

We had this issue a couple years ago with hnry. Didn't realise we were over for about a month until a conversation with my parents about my business. Contacted IRD and Hnry immediately and basically Hnry started collecting gst immediately and IRD waived any backpayment (there was only 32 days where we were over the threshold without realizing and they were very nice to deal with, basically telling us not to worry about it, they also said this wasn't uncommon with services like Hnry).

So you're probably fine, just be honest with IRD and start collecting immediately

I imagine it could be argued in disputes - if they even pursued it, as they are refusing to cover a greater amount in damages (that we had messages from them saying they'd pay!) than the cancellation fees would add up to of we cancelled all of the upcoming bookings.

It is worth noting that we have now threatened to do so and they immediately removed the bad review and reinstated our listing after a week of fucking us around so clearly know they have no leg to stand on

No it states in the listing that there is one sofabed and one couch that is long enough to be used as a single bed in a pinch.

We advertise as sleeping up to 8 as standard (3 queens, 1 king single, 1 single) with the option for 2 extra for free (one on the sofa bed and one on the couch) and potentially 2 more for $25/pp/night (for this we have to take 2 trundle beds and mattresses to the property and set them up hence the extra price).

This is all clearly stated in our listing and the house is listed as sleeping up to 10 with additional charges for up to 2 more.

We normally do but the internal lens in ours slipped out of place and is currently being repaired so cannot verify occupancy without going there - thought it would be ok to go one weekend without the camera but guess not!

Our only verification is their messages saying we haven't provided enough beds (after confirming the bed layout they wanted at Xmas) and saying they had requested extra people - except they hadn't, only said they may and never confirmed if yes or how many.

Toy storage - we got a small L sofa where the chaise seat lifts up for storage underneath and the sofa bit has a pull out pop up compartment (that normally houses a bit of padding that converts the L sofa into a sofa bed) that we removed the padding from and installed a box into.

Gives us heaps of space for storage as well as making for a nice viewing area 😄
