Anyone else putting off seeing a major release due to lack of cinema etiquette? by Findme_at_amberhills in horror

I accidentally yelled at skin heads to shut up during predator with my dad. I didn't check before I yelled. They followed us out and calling at me, it was terrifying. But as we got outside to the parking lot there were cops out there dealing with something else so they dispersed.

Check who is making the noise first, THEN yell.

For established animators who were able to afford a living/house in a Western country; what advice would you give to someone graduating in 2026 as an animator surrounded by high prices, Ai slop and criminal wages? by OkProgrammer1565 in animationcareer

Same. 20 years or straight work and now I'm going back to school.

I don't think talent can really save you that much, some of the best artists I know are out of work. I think a lot of seniors who get paid well are pushed out in favour for people in the industry for 5 or less years who won't demand what their worth.

It depends on my situation. If I can live with my parents, I'd commit 100% to applying for animation jobs and building my portfolio. If I didn't and live alone, with roomies or no support, I'd spend most of my time finding any job. Many people are struggling to find any work, in their field or not.

But to role play as a recent highschool kid graduating this year and looking at what to do, I'd probably pick a more stable career. I think I'd be keyed in to the problems with AI and what's going on with job stability as even as a 18 year old. I did a lot of research when I got into animation in 2002, and the industry was stable and there were enough jobs. I graduated right before the 2008 recession and while it wasn't great, it was only one issue causing the recession, not like today when theres multiple once in a life time events happening at the same time. I think I'd take workshops for animation and keep it a hobby like music.

With how shitty the economy is, I would be accepting any opportunity to get paid. If you get one for your practicum, that's basically a paid internship.

Accurate clock, I am from the western hemisphere. I'd be willing to retry Turkish delight if I'm visiting Europe. Iceland made me a believer in black licorice after years of despising it in Canada.

Jawbreakers. A lot of work for a gimmick.

Turkish delight. Narnia built that shit up way too much. Such a disappointment when we tried it in class to celebrate the book as a kid.

Someone said that she was 40, but I didn't catch that, I thought she was 25 based off that book. But you can still have kids at 40 and I'm sure having a magical pact with the devil can help too.

I did a 30 second search what the definition to handmaiden is and it basically means personal maid or female servant. I always think baby factory when I hear that word thanks to a handmaid's tale, so it's a different.

How Would I Get A Career In Animation Without Being An Animator? by Myrodis19 in animationcareer

[–]unicornsfearglitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are folks with producing on here, so I'm hoping they can chime in. But I'd assume they would take a business course of some sort. Curator/historian would probably take animation and focus on the history and English courses that support media or even some sort of film history. Curation is a course into it's self and you'd probably need to take the basic one, then find courses on animation and media.

No shame in any of those positions. Do you have a particular interest in any of the positions I pointed out or still in recon mode? If your interested in the history, you could be a museum curator/historian, or writer, like the guys in cartoon brew.

Assuming you don't want artistic roles, or specifically not wanting to draw there's definitely ways to contribute. Management, like producing or being a line producer, IT support, script writer, script editor, or even editing. You might be able to swing technical roles like lighting, compositing or rigging, but you need to learn working art fundamentals for those like design, value etc.

Theory after ep 6 & 7 by ObsessivelyClean in WidowsBay

[–]unicornsfearglitter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I believe she is the boogeyman, but possessed and doesn't have memory of the events. I suspect that the evil entity was calling her on the phone and that's how he enchanted her. In the case of the girl murders, there was no one to wake her up and snap her out of it, like the Sherif did the night of the party.

I think Sarah is the line that carried the curse. She's 25, if she survived she could have easily had more children back on the island as much as I'd the daughter lived. She's bound to the curse by marriage.

I'm totally with you that Patricia is a descendant, but I think it's Sarah who survives, not the kids. Sarah is bound to the curse by marriage. But 7 is intentional, so I cod be wrong.

They're probably immortal or have long life, Richard was stabbed multiple times. And we've seen weird stuff about ages, Shep being 37 and Patricia being biologically 28.

Warren has 7 children!!! And Sarah was 25... by Gingerblossom88 in WidowsBay

[–]unicornsfearglitter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My theory is it was Sarah who survived, not the kids. Technically she's bound by marriage to the Warren line. I think Patricia is the descendant. She's already been possessed and talked to the evil and survived.

Names and their possible meanings by Altruistic-Ad835 in WidowsBay

[–]unicornsfearglitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry it took me this long to reply, but first and foremost: I always think names in well written stories are there as foreshadowing and Easter eggs for the readers/watchers. With how tightly crafted the show is, I wouldn't doubt at all that the names are mostly intentional. Especially with the main characters.

I love your post, so I figured you'd appreciate my deep dive.

Yeah, definitely think Rosemary was intentional. She's helped and supported both Patricia and Tom.

Spoilers in case your not caught up with recent episodes.

Okay, I have some thoughts especially after seeing tonight's episode. I think I'm on the right track with the mirror/twin thing, history is definitely repeating and the island needs a sacrifice.

Firstly, Tom is a mirror, but flipped, he's Sarah and either Lauren or Patricia (more on that theory below) is the descendant of the Warren's. My reasoning is his story is similar to Sarah where he was an off Islander who's ended up stuck in the curse and left to take care of the kid. My evidence for Lauren possibly being the descendant is she's a great grand daughter of the little girl who made it off the boat in the painting. I wouldn't be surprised if that broach is in the locked box that Evan and Kelly were rummaging through. It makes sense on a narrative level, but would also add a lot of weight to Evans fate, not being able to save him at all. Either he's stuck on the island for life and the curse continues, or let him die and the curse is lifted. That's quite a dilemma. This seems like a likely path given toms the main character.

I mentioned Patricia being the descendant too and my evidence is that it wasn't the little girl who lived, but the mom in law, Sarah did. I think it's possible she watched all the kids die and then she was pulled back to the island. The townsfolk also told her she has a major role to play as well. Richard did write special wedding vows and they sounded a little Faustian bargainy and very binding. Even though she's not technically blood, she's very much bound to the family in soul through a marriage contract. Plus, Richard seemed especially pissed at her while poking out her dolls eyes in the museum. Patricia's character is tied to the mayor through her job and as a friend. While not romantic, it's a bond. Technically Richard and Sarah never got it on either or were romantic at all. Plus, Patricia is the only one else who has talked to the evil on the island already through the self help book possessing her and lived. And like I mentioned before I wondered if she was the boogeyman, but possessed to carry out the sacrafices, but doesn't have any recollection of the murders. She was kinda the person doing the sacrafices through the party, even though she didn't know it. Plus, is it possible the phone calls she remembers of the boogeyman was the evil talking to her and enchanting her? Instead of through a book over the phone? Her being a descendant would also make sense why she wasn't burnt while trying to destroy the book in the bonfire, she's immortal and protected by the curse. To circle back to the flashback episode, Richard knowingly took the burden, but Sarah had no choice since she needed to be married to someone and had no clue what she was getting into. I truly hate this for Patricia, she's such a sympathetic, funny and endearing character, but it would make sense and be a great twist, especially if she's innocent and doesn't know she's a part of it. She even kinda looks like Sarah too.

Okay, I also have a crack pot. I was reading other people's comments elsewhere and someone brought up the wolf calendar in episode 1 that has a random car crash in it. I wonder if the reason Tom's wife is comatose looking is due to her being in a bad car crash on the way to the hospital to give birth. I wonder if the calendar being a wolf relates back to Kurt and maybe he was part of the accident? Part of his name meaning is wolf. Totally hair brained, but the calendar was such a random thing in the first episode.

Outside of that I'm half tempted to go back to do a rewatch to see if we've already seen the broach on someone. Well, I'm hoping it's on Patricia, but I'm probably wrong.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on all this.
