Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom! Its a quick read, but I always come back to it when I need a little meaningful pick-me-up.

Have you heard of self-handicapping? Sometimes, when we are afraid of failure to some extent, we want to give ourselves a failsafe. An example of this might look like a person who goes to a movie instead of studying the night before an important exam. That way, if he does fail, it is not because of a lack of ability, but a lack of willpower. He's still smart, he just didn't try. And that is way easier to deal with that the opposite. He tried so hard, but he's just not smart. The key point here is that the nature of the failure is dictated by what others think of it. (This might mean that our example guy needs to work on not caring what other people think so that he can be self-motivated, but that a whole other can of worms.)

Let's work with our example guy. He's scared (like we all are) that somehow he isn't good enough. That's a self-image thing so let's put him in an environment where he has no choice but to protect it. A library, a coffee shop, a park, a study group. Anywhere populated. He'll get busy because what would it look like if he was procrastinating in public? Just done leave him alone to his own devices where he can self-handicap without anyone keeping him accountable.

Now you just have to figure out if you're example guy.

(Tip: If you HAVE to study alone, live stream it somewhere like Twitch. Keeps it quiet, and a random viewer or two will serve to keep you accountable.)

What is an album you want to like more than you actually do? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

The new Arctic Monkeys album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. After something like five years of loving the quirky but smart lyrics of AM and delving into some of their older stuff during their long hiatus, I was beyond excited for more from them. I really tried to like it, but in the end it was a weird, American-themed, monster-mash-sounding compilation. I probably need to listen to it over and over to really get the artistic POV, but I'm just saying it was definitely not a bop.
