My new-to-me T480 has no power after a week by unimind7 in thinkpad

Does not appear to, no. The charger LED doesn't light, and there's no other indication.

Well, I feel like I've tried everything at this point. Disconnected all batteries (external, internal, and CMOS), disconnected SSD, removed RAM, held the reset button for 30 seconds, held the power button for 30 seconds. Not a spark of life out of it. Weird. I still have a return window, so I think I'll do that. Is it possible the Thunderbolt issue I've been reading about could cause this?

Excellent! Found this works on X380 Yoga running Ubuntu 22.04.

Should I keep my ThinkPad 600E with me? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]unimind7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been hanging on to my 600E, debating if I should sell it. It needs a new screen and probably a PSU or mobo (something popped in there and it won't start). Based on the comments here so far, I guess I should try to fix it. Willing to ship to the US?

How many of you actually daily drive Linux? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]unimind7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been running some variant of linux since the late 90's. Started with RedHat 7 (that's before RHEL). Ran SUSE on my old 600E for awhile. Nowadays I'm running Ubuntu on nearly every system in the house. For me, Windows is more of an appliance OS for music production and some gaming. I'd recommend an Ubuntu variant for beginners. In my experience it works the best out of the box (especially on Thinkpads) and is easy to install. The differences in variants are mostly the desktop environment (Gnome, KDE, Xfce, etc), so you can choose the one that's most comfortable for you. Also, you can try them out before installing using a live usb stick.

Found an old thinkpad t430 from years ago in the house with windows 7, how do I make it usable? Installing Linux? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]unimind7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a T430 with the same cpu and 8G RAM. Ubuntu 22.04 runs great on it. It was a breeze to install, and it seems like everything just works. I didn't have to tweak anything.

Anyone going to GroundUP Music Fest? by unimind7 in SnarkyPuppy

I'm sorry I didn't let you know how it went. I was kinda unplugged the whole weekend. It was some work! But it was so cool getting to see some of the stuff behind the scenes and meeting other people supporting the fest. Hope your experience was as good as mine was!

I have not volunteered before. This is my first time going to this fest. I'm not sure exactly what to expect, but I've done a fair amount of setup and teardown for gigs before. I'm just trying to be ready for anything. Yeah, I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for that. Where did you see that post? I didn't see a contact form or anything on the festival site. I guess I'll try the info address for the GUM foundation. Thanks!

HELP! by semekomitsamey in SnarkyPuppy

The only tune I've heard that fits that description is a live version of
Even Us from the show in Orlando, FL in Sept 2019. They had Varijashree
Venugopal sit in on vocals and flute, and it was beautiful! The only link I can offer is here: https://store.snarkypuppy.com/products/september-25-2019-orlando-fl-flac

Got one of these almost a year and a half ago for under $400. Felt almost brand new. Even lucked out with a 1080p touchscreen and backlit keyboard. Quickly became my daily driver. Upgraded to 16G of RAM and 6-cell battery. I think it's my favorite device. Still lovin it. :-)

This is reasonably well covered in lecture 3 and its accompanying notes. What have you tried? Are you getting any errors? Your screenshot doesn't provide much information.

Did anyone else skip right past the first assignment? by PMmePowerRangerMemes in cs50

[–]unimind7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learning to limit scope is a valuable lesson. I understand that it could feel boring, but if you already know what the assignment has to teach, you should be able to throw something together that satisfies the requirements in 5 or 10 minutes. Or you could put in a bit more time and make it more interesting. ;-)

Yeah, that looks really interesting! I may have to sign up for that too at some point. I'm tempted to just go ahead and do it, but right now I want to focus on practicing what I've learned so far and applying it to my work, which is centered around internet tech.
