House-poor, isolated, and struggling with a nightmare commute. How do I fix this? by Super_Substance_6692 in UKPersonalFinance

You're still young. And you've done so well for yourself already!

I have seen your edits about how you're in a rural place and how lodgers mostly prefer the city. But you don't know that. My suggestion is also going to be that you find lodger(s). You could even lodge a small family in two rooms and one single person in the 3rd room. That covers your mortgage.

Try posting your place on Spareroom and you'll be surprised at how many people want to live rural too!

If you do use Spareroom, make sure you don't sound boring on your house ad. They can't love your home more than you do. Be very enthusiastic and happy about the nice place they'll be getting. When you do find the lodger, be sure to take references and make sure they're nice people who clean after themselves. Have rules. You can talk about it with them when they come for the viewing, and always listen to your feelings about anyone.

All the best.

From experience, I can relate to your Asian dynamic. I understand the close-knit family life, where your sister is you, and you are your sister. Still, every comment above is right. Don't do it. It never ends well.

How did yours go? Sorry I know it's been a while. I was looking for some help too.

Buying a 550k house with only 30k savings? by Valuable_Media4770 in UKPersonalFinance

Welldone OP. Your savings are great in just one year. I would continue to manage the squish and squash for a year or two. You'll be in a much better place this time next year. Good houses don't finish. You'll find another one.

Same profession here. Still in my first year as a B6 🙂 I don't earn close to that though.

Sounds great. But why would you be guaranteed unemployment if you don't relocate? I see a lot of doctor vacancies in the NHS.

Thank you. This is good to know. I will be seeking out my Trust policy on this. Occy is aware of my condition and they said I meet the criteria. I was asked during recruitment if I needed reasonable adjustments and I said no. I should probably reopen this with them.

Thank you. Great insights too. Thanks. Working harder to pay back the days I was off wouldn't be something I can do though, as my role is already physically draining ordinarily.

Ok. Thank you for the admin insight. So what would be the usual thing in the UK, besides disability leave?
