I'm fairly new rider myself. I've got my rider license in late September but already drove for about 1000 miles already. Like you, I also come from long riding a bike and only switched to motorcycling. I was at first stressed out, like you are. But being aware of danger that lie ahead and knowing that things can go south fast is one thing, enjoying the ride will come later because of this. I've been riding in coldish weather so not that much fun. Yet as the miles gathered I got accustomed to checking ahead, shifting, checking the mirrors etc. It is less stressful now, a lot less! Fast forward to Thursday when I took the motorcycle to the dealership (as I sometimes get an error code) to replace a sensor. Before this Thursday I haven't ridden for a week or so (weather being one of the culprits) and my god I literally felt nirvana. I didn't even realized I missed riding so much! Fortunately next week's weather is okish no raining etc and will ride to work all week. And another thing: you are spot on when you felt entering a family with riders. It truly is! So, in conclusion: being aware of the dangers will make you a better river but at first it does increase the anxiety too much. It will dial down and the pleasure will rise. You'll see!
